Federal Judge Warns Of A Jan. 6 Repeat In The 2024 Election

A federal judge in Washington, D.C., warned Thursday that Donald Trump could provoke a Jan. 6-style attack with another call to arms in response to the 2024 election.

U.S. District Judge Rudy Contreras made his comments from the bench during the sentencing of a Jan. 6 rioter. Noting that Trump and his allies had “spurred” the attack, the judge expressed concern that the defendant before him would respond to a similar “call” in the future.

“It doesn’t take much imagination to imagine a similar call coming out in the coming months,” Contreras said.

This is, by my count, at least the third federal judge sitting in DC who has publicly warned of the threat we still face right now – not just the retrospective assigning of blame for what happened in the 2020 election, but actively and frantically sending out alerts that we may face more political violence ahead.

    https://talkingpointsmemo.com/morni...-warns-of-a-jan-6-repeat-in-the-2024-election

I think it's a mistake to think in terms of a repeat of the 1/6 riot Trump inspired. I'm sure Mike Johnson will have the Capital Police prepared this time (just kidding on two counts).

The more salient point is Trump maintains control over potentially violent followers who he has proven willing to unleash on any governmental body he sees fit. If not with actual violence, which have been less frequent, then with threats of it.

The reflexive reaction of Trump's defenders no doubt displaying, without realizing it, how the violence associated with Trumpery has been normalized.

Trump is already preparing to spur another January 6. He believes he will lose and that this means that all the privileges that he has received because he's running for President will be gone. It wouldn't surprise me if he announces he's running for 2028 the day after the elections.

What I'm not sure will happen is that this many of his followers will be as eager to do prison time for him. However, there WILL be nuts who might be willing to commit acts of terrorism in his name.

Trump just needs to be put in prison... quick! Before he ruins more people or causes more loss of life than he already has.

We need to start re-thinking our whole judicial system. Trump has gotten too many privileges. And the more privileges he gets, the more ETTD will ruin more people's lives.

If it does happen again, please let it happen ON JANUARY 6th, this way when the libs complain about it, we can ignore both events at the same time since they have the same date. Thanks!

    Interesting.

What could possibly be the one single commonality between all of these DC Federal judges?

With you folks it's always fault with the court, a judge, a grand jury, a DA, but never an act by Trump.

The judge who spearheaded the judiciary’s response to the storming of the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, blamed that event on “big lies” and warned that the country is in danger of turning toward authoritarianism.

As the federal court in Washington that Judge Beryl Howell once oversaw prepares for a historic trial of former President Donald Trump on charges of attempting to fraudulently overturn the results of the 2020 election, the jurist used a rare public speech Tuesday to lament that many of those convicted for their actions on Jan. 6 fell under the sway of falsehoods.

And here is you doing the same with the supreme court.

So, why don't you hold yourself to the same standards that you demand from others?

With Trump's arrogance, I think he truly believes that White Supremacist groups will once again rise to his cause when he loses. I think they're tired of spending time in prison, while being thrown under the bus by the sore loser.

More like fear mongering based on an invented fear. Spare us this sort of stuff, please.

Given how 2 SC appointments were effectively stolen from Dem presidents by McConnell's anti-democratic treachery, and that Trump was told who to nominate by the country's most prominent ultra conservative legal organization........yeah, we have something to complain about.
    BTW, nice deflection.

STOLEN? WTF do you think they belong to?

claiming the federalist society (I was invited to be a founding member-turned it down-I was coaching the varsity squash team, women's tennis team and attending law school at the same time) is ultra right is a bright and shining lie

Isn't it the left that continues to say that elections have consequences? I think so. But of course you are welcome to complain. We all do it.

So you feel widespread threats of violence, including death threats, and harassment of judicial officials involved in Trump's trials by his followers, not condemned by Don but rather inspired by Trump's own attacks against said officials, is equivalent to people protesting outside the home of Schlitz Kavanaugh? That would be laughable were those kinds of false equivalences not so pervasive among you folks.

Yes. What has that got to do with what McTreason did to rob a sitting prez of a SC nomination that was his to make, followed by completely reversing course on his intellectually bankrupt rationale to ram through another nominee at the very end of Trump's term?

and if Trump wins, Biden can just have his VP declare Biden the winner... at least that is what many Trump supporters think
