Very disturbing to hear about Biden. Let's make sure this doesn't happen again.

Do we all agree that there should be regular, meaningful, externally- managed cognitive testing for POTUS going forward with public disclosure of the results?

As Trump would say: THIS MUST NOT HAPPEN AGAIN!!

You may have stuck your neck out a little far there, Steve. I'm now hearing all these checks and balances are unconstitutional.

You can be a lobotomized sleepwalker and qualify for president, apparently (if your staff don't want to do anything about it).

I just heard him in a press conference, he sounded fine to me. His interview at Meidas Touch Network seemed fine, as well.

I'm not convinced he has 'cognitive decline' , though a lot of people on the right are making that claim.

Well, one can only go by what one 'hears' nowadays....

Us mortals can only judge their faculty by their various public appearances. Hence my suggestion for objective testing for elderly POTUS.

I have to pass an eye test to renew my driver's license, nothing wrong with requiring a POTUS to take a cognitive test and the results be disclosed. I prefer a cognitive test rather than seeing their tax return. What's a tax return got to do with running the USA?

What Biden has demonstrated is what little actual power the President has. Apparently people who we don't vote for and we don't know make all the decisions. The President's apparent purpose is to convince Americans that he is actually making the decisions. Biden failed at that job miserably.

I must have missed something. The democrats kicked him out and put in Harris. I thought that was because of his mental decline.

Well, they seem to have a habit of believing what they want to believe. Until tere is a formal diagnosis by a professional ......it is just wishful thinking on their part.

No.....it was because of his age . He also suffers from serious arthritis. ( compromises his ability to walk ie: that stiff walk /gait that he has is more pronounced He would be in a lot o pain)

The system is so corrupted that whatever "rule" or "law" is written, the creatures in the system quickly learn to go around. They even have a bureaucratic name for it, "work around"

If Trump starts losing it, I will post that he’s senile and not fit for office, just like I did for Biden last spring. The country and the people come first. A political party is nothing more than a means to an end. If it ceases to serve the people, it must make adjustments or get voted out of power.

What's disturbing about it? He brought the country out from the verge of a recession, unemployment has been hovering around 4% for years, inflation is under control, our status in the world is again strong.... His "mind" DESERVES to decline at this point, so he can rest after a job well done!

Worry about how the next President (we don't know if it's Trump or Musk) will undermine all the great things this "mentally declined" President has accomplished.

Yes, there were a lot of people on the right who were making the claim Biden had serious mental decline. Of course, many on the left made the same claim, as well. The Wall Street Journal interviewed over 50 White House staffers, you know, the people who saw him on a daily basis, also are making the same claim. I would include the link to the Wall Street Journal but you would find it behind a paywall, but the New York Post had a similar article:

    https://nypost.com/2024/12/19/us-ne...1-of-his-presidency-explosive-report-reveals/

After looking at the best available evidence, I would disagree that Joe Biden had a significant decline because he was already pretty senile when he first entered office.

Cherry picking a single instance when Biden had a least a minimal amount of lucidity, such as the Meidas Touch interview, isn't very informative. My great uncle was a structural engineer and he had the ability to discuss the force vectors on structural members of any bridge you could show him a picture of, and even so he didn't recognize his wife and kids. Even the most senile individuals can have small instances of clarity. You have to look at the big picture and Biden's own staff paint a bleak picture.

What has arthritis have to do with his ability to govern? The democrats kicked him overboard and you claim it is because of his arthritis.

    A couple of points:
Biden's decline was apparent quite a while before his debate debacle. Late night TV hosts began using him as a punchline back around 2022. I remember remarking to Mrs. Hays that he would have trouble coming back from that.

How about an age limit for presidential candidacy of 72? And term limits for SC justices. Our democracy is in need of reform. Making the EC obsolete would also be a step in the right direction. Not to mention taking the decision to hold confirmation hearings for SC justices out of the hands of the Senate leader to prevent more treachery like McTreason's.

Also, the reason he wasn't charged by Hur.

Hur decided not to charge Biden for keeping classified documents in his Delaware garage because he 'would likely present himself to a jury' as a 'sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.'

Biden could not even repeat back to his staff lines they fed him while preparing for his interview with Hur, the Journal reported.

White House Biden health cover-up blown wide open in bombshell report: Joe was senile from day one of presidency | Daily Mail Online

Those pretending that Biden was not cognitive impaired the last four years are likely dead parrot salesmen.

No. The problem here was not testing. The man was obviously impaired on day one of this administration. It was common knowledge among most people. The problem was partisanship and denial. He shouldn't have been elected. Since he was he should have faced the 25th amendment before the first year had passed. Since that didn't happen he should have been forced out politically after the first year. We paid a heavy price for his dementia. Our government administration was managed by unelected staffers with no personal stake in the game. We may have paid a heavier price had Harris become president. however. It's in the past now so let's move on.

If we go with a one-size-fits-all way of doing things, then where does it end? I think testing is the best way to go, it will weed out the incapable people be they 50 years old or 72.

That is a matter of opinion. Trump can have a short fuse, but I generally agree with his policies.

Of course I would have a short fuse too if some low life, like Adam Schiff, spent four years making up stories about Russian collusion. I'd be even more pissed at New York City kangaroo courts fining me hundreds of millions for conducting legitimate business practices or putting me in jail for paying off an ugly, boob enhanced porn star. Of course, if I had been Trump, I would kept my thing in my pants, but nondisclosure agreements are not illegal.
