Nuclear ‘Armageddon’ risk ‘highest since Cuban missile crisis’, says Joe Biden

House passes legislation to avert a rail shutdown

The House on Wednesday approved legislation to avert a rail shutdown following a grave warning from President Joe Biden about the economic danger posed by congressional inaction.

By a 290 to 137 vote, the House passed the tentative rail agreement that will prevent a rail strike. The vote was largely bipartisan, with 79 Republicans joining Democrats in voting for the bill. Eight Democrats voted against the bill.

The House used an arcane procedure to pass the bill so that it can include language to give railroad workers paid leave, in a separate subsequent vote that progressives had called for. But, because it’s a procedure, the Senate can vote on the original measure without considering the paid leave component and won’t have to send it back to the House.

Yep Biden couldn't get it done so he kicked the can to Congress telling HEY you do it and the unions are extorting more paid leave by threatening to shut down the economy over it. Congress should pass the 60 day cooling off period and nothing more. Send them back to the table and "I'M A UNION GUY" Biden can go and show us some leadership here.

What if the union ignores Congress?

Well not up on all the federal law on the matter but I would envision the unions would be decertified and the business managers charged either criminally or civilly under the railroad laws. Then I would hope Biden would do a Reagan and tell the workers that it they strike they have 48 hours to report back to work of their jobs and any future railroad jobs would end. He would then call up the military to fill in until new workers could be hired. Railroads are highly automated now and run from central offices.

The military has LOTS and LOTS of Air Traffic Controllers. Not many skilled railroad workers. Big things made of tons of metal with moving parts and such require more than folks at desks and consoles to run.

They operate rail lines and as I said most of that is handled at consolidate switching locations. We got through that ATC firing, had a good friend who did so and regretted it forever after, we will survive this one and Biden will have rOFLMAO explain why he couldn't settle it otherwise.
