I am arguing exactly that point...because that is how movie sets work. Several of you are being ridiculous and zealous.

    And you're wrong.

This story is why you're wrong.

Oh no...she should have been charged with manslaughter and done SERIOUS time. SHE is the reason one person died and the other was seriously wounded.

    It really is simple.

He followed your rules and look what happened.

Following proper gun safety would have saved lives.....that's mine and others position.

He did it your way and someone died and you've actually said those who've taken our position are ridiculous. Think about it.

I would hope you'd rethink your position on something when you see a story like this.

You are being dense. You arent 'thinking'. We are talking about a movie set with rules and regulations and practices specifically designed to bring about safe results...and the MAIN PERSON who was literally hired to ensure weapons safety...failed dismally...and deliberately.

this was a workplace accident, a civil matter

now the one that put a live round there by mistake is a different matter

he hired a professional to check and make them safe, they failed at their job

be like charging you with murder cause the guy you hired to trim your tree let a log fall on a person and it killed them

I understand what you're saying and with THAT I don't disagree.

But, this isn't the first accidental shooting with live rounds on set. After the first accidental shooting, one would think that it would behoove anyone pointing a firearm at another person would, for safety's sake, check to confirm there were blanks in the chamber and not live rounds.

I've done living history events since I was a teenager. We always had multiple safety inspections, mostly but not entirely, looking out for unsafe ammunition. Not just live rounds, but improperly constructed rounds. There was a time when making paper cartridges, held together with staples was a thing. Even with the inspections, the rule of thumb was to never aim directly at another person. The same thing should apply on movie sets, as much as possible.

If the prosecutor had done her job the trial would still be ongoing. If anything this proves how hiring an expensive lawyer can make all the difference in a criminal case. So yeah, rich people technically get away with things the poors cannot. But only when the prosecutor ****s up, as happened here.
Isn’t that because they get a special license to drive those things? Do people need a special license to use a gun on a movie set? Maybe they should. I’m sure you’d like more gun regs.
If he checked the gun he would have seen it was loaded. But would he have known they were live rounds and not blanks? I’m sure you’ll tell me the at a gun enthusiast would know the difference. But what if you’re not Yosemite Sam?

Unfortunate accident, but the prosecution withheld evidence preventing a fair trial.

Im fine with the notion that the average Joe...or even most people ...would check firearms...but not actors and not on a movie set. There are literally safety checks that are supposed to occur 3x from the moment the armorer touches the 'prop' to the time the actor handles the 'prop'. They werent followed and thats the problem.

I must not be suited to living in our society with our justice system. It seems to me that everyone who signs up to make a movie involving real guns, inherits a measure of responsibility for whatever happens, including the woman who died. So I think it should be handled in house by the industry.

The issue is whether Alec Baldwin, using a gun that was not supposed to be loaded with a live round, is criminally culpable. He didn’t buy the gun at “2nd Amendment R Us”,load it, forget that he loaded it, and then fire it at someone.

He pointed the pistol at another person and pulled the trigger without checking the status of the pistol. Sounds pretty negligent.

It's the same as negligent homicide.

He hired someone who's job was to ensure that all weapons can be safely used. Did anyone go to jail when Brandon Lee was killed by a prop gun?

He should have ensured that the weapons were prop guns only since that is the way that they were being treated.

At the very least they should not chamber live ammunition. They can make any gun to fire a blank round and that's it

Any actor in the future should be following this case closely and heading the advice to actually gain the minimal amount of skill necessary to check a weapon what is in it.

It's not very difficult at all

You're arguing that there are certain situations in which basic gun safety can be ignored. I can't think of anything more 'dense' than that.

It's clear who's being dense and not thinking and it clearly isn't me.

Again, YOUR WAY got someone killed and MY WAY, the way everyone should be taught, ensures that doesn't happen.

This very story proves you wrong and you are still sticking to your position. Most people would realize they're wrong when someone dies.

The rules you THOUGHT were good enough, ended up getting someone killed. Most people would realize that it in fact wasn't good enough and would change them to ensure it doesn't happen again.

Good luck trying to convince people that basic gun safety doesn't matter on a movie set because there's a 'professional' there.

In my Post #98 in this thread (back in April) I wrote, "From what I've seen and read, Baldwin flat-out lied at least once to authorities about the shooting because he said he didn't pull the trigger, but the FBI analysts say that particular gun could not have been fired unless someone did pull the trigger. But a state like New Mexico has become completely Democrat blue over the years, and besides New Mexico always encourages big Hollywood productions to locate there. Don't bite the hand that feeds you, right?"

Oh, and now the case against Baldwin has been dropped? NO ****?!
