I recently discovered there's a number of us who watch the sport - so let's discuss it here! RAW, Smackdown, the PPV's and anything else, any other companies out there -
Thanks for the thread, my friend. Long overdue. I think a really big thing to keep an eye on is how much competition (and how much WWE Talent will eventually be poached) by the New Upstart AEW. Some Serious Competition (for sure). Here is the current AEW Roster (as of June 18th): https://www.gamespot.com/gallery/full-aew-roster-all-67-wrestlers-signed-to-all-eli/2900-2501/ Once again, thanks for the thread.
the new era of pro wrestling is fantastic but I also like to talk about the old timers. Some of my favorites are: The Undertaker (and his famous manager, Paul Bearer), Andre The Giant (lots of fame and lots of tragedy), Rowdy Roddy Piper (starred in a cult classic movie), Rick Flair (known as Nature Boy, following in the Gorgeous George persona), Dusty Rhodes (he reminded me of Curly from the 3 Stooges). To be continued (sometime).
My God, there was some stuff during his feud with Dean Malenko in WCW where I laughed so hard I almost puked out my lungs.
Yeah. A lot of Hella Funny Stuff. The Raw/Smackdown Stuff is High Comedy. Especially when they follow them all around and you see backstage stuff and parking lot fights, etc. Really epic Comedic Soap Opera stuff. Ronda Rousey (since signing up) must be having a blast.
@Stuart Wolfe ... per your interest from that other thread: https://wftda.com/new-fans/ alive & well, leagues are worldwide now... EDIT: they even have a 'transgender/confused' league in nyc... https://www.gothamgirlsrollerderby.com/
Hells yeah. About time. I've been watching Wrestling since my dad used to take me to Stampede Wrestling events as a kid. It was always on right before Superstars of Wrestling ( WWF) on Saturdays. AEWs Double or Nothing PPV was a lot of fun. Bowed out of WWE after Wrestlemania but started watching RAW from last night when i heard Heyman was running things and was actually enjoying myself. Can't do the 3 hours though, so will finish tonight.
i remember going to the nassau colesium & the garden and the place was devoid of fans, i mean like less than a hundred of us at the events & $12 to get in. times have changed! my brother just went to wrestlemania 35, full to capacity, seats were $3000 a piece on the runway (crazy bastard!). some of my old faves: randy savage (macho man) rowdy roddy piper gorilla monsoon george 'the animal' steele andre the giant!
So I just noticed that TNA still exists - is it even worth watching at this point? I saw some old ECW alumni in there - I think I saw RVD and Sabu. Maaaan, I am surprised Sabu is still alive!
I found this: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impact_Wrestling TNA is now "Impact". It seems sort of Minor League.
From what I've heard (haven't seen myself) it's improved significantly. Critically praised a lot on the Reddit Sub /r/SquaredCircle I stopped watching around the Aces and 8's storyline.
I think I stopped watching around/after the time of Joker Sting. I really have no idea how he pulled that off - either it's a guilty pleasure or I'm just a bigger Sting mark than I thought.
I thought it was a nice way to reinvent himself. Makes sense too considering he made a 'Crow' ripoff gimmick work as well. Guy is just that good
July 7, 1996 The greatest day in the history of pro wrestling. On this day at Bash-At-The-Beach, the greatest organization in the industry was created as Hulk Hogan, joined with Kevin Nash and Scott Hall to created the nWo! Quick action by the WCW security chief (former sheriff from Georgia), security guards, and local police kept this from turning into a riot. The nWo lives! And I have been a proud member since the day it was created. To this day I exchange fraternal salutes with local members here in the Twin Cities. !!!nWo 4 life!!!
I think the crowd reaction - all the debris thrown into the ring - speaks for itself. The only times you saw worse was during ECW - Cactus Jack and Terry Funk during Hardcore Heaven 1994 HERE. BTW, when I went to the movies the other day, I saw someone wearing an APA shirt!
There's no folding chairs in a theater! Maybe if I were watching Spider-Man: Far From Home in a bingo hall, I could have done it!
