I grew up in St.Louis. I went to Humboldt grade school and McKinley high school. I haven't been there for almost 40 years now. I know that the place has really changed
you know , SpotsCat here's the way I look at it ... I like a nice steak as well as the next man ... and I sure do like pizza , never been to Imos Pizza Joint , sounds like a real hoot . maybe I'll get by there someday , ya never know .. But you owe it to yourself to try some fried squirrel just one time , , , you'll be glad you did ...
I think I've had squirrel before - the local Future Farmers of America (FFA) used to hold an annual wildlife dinner, and I'm reasonably certain they had red squirrel on the menu, and if they did I ate it. When I was in Alaska, I ate marmot (whistle pig) a time or two, and it wasn't bad - but I was young and adventurous. Nowadays... "Beef. It's what's for dinner!"
I've been given squirell duty at my parents house. I shot a few, but then I felt guilty for like a week, so now I just chase them through the yard, screaming and flapping my arms in the air. Surprisingly, its been kind of effective. We don't get them as often as we used to, but my parents neighbors probably think I'm on crack.
I have a pet rodent, so I take offense. Then again I have a freezer full of dead mice to feed my other pet. I got a few mice in my building, but they don't really bother me. Every now and then I see one scurry across the floor, and I try to catch it for an hour so I can let it go somewhere else. I don't like killing things, it makes me feel guilty. Except bugs, (*)(*)(*)(*) bugs.
What Amurcan movie did you drag that fiction out of? Haven't heard of it myself, but it sounds like a lot of crap (yes pun intentional) The objection to shooting and eating squirrels is not derived from anti-American sentiment and if it was, could you be more unprovokedly offensive? I'm not quite ready to poke you in the eye with a sharp stick, but getting close. We have a squirrel. There is woodland beside the house, but we only see one. It's lived here for years. It comes every day and eats whatever I put out for it just as the birds do. It doesn't cause any problems, the dog keeps it at bay I suppose. But there was a scene at the weekend, my husband was outside and called to me to look at the garage wall and there was the squirrel, hanging on the garage wall facing downward and growling at the dog. It makes loud growly and clicking noises. Then it lost its nerve and ran up the wall and along the fence and away. The walls here are roughcast with pebbles on the outside, but it can run along that as if it was running along the ground. Spider squirrel...very impressive. Still don't like the idea of killing them. They don't do any harm here. But I kill the mice if they come into the house. If they stay outside, they're fine. Once they come in here, that is a different matter.
I've heard that one. It happened to my aunt. A man came and trapped them and took them to a place with lovely trees to live in.
Well I got 4 more but FedEx lost my freakin rifle. Still using the 850 Hammerilli. This last one I shot today was pretty funny. I dropped his sorry ass with the first shot. Anyone who has hunted before knows the little convulsions small animals make then they've been fatally hit. He dropped but not out of the tree. I sent my wife around to the side to find it. She said it wasn't on the ground and right then he dropped out of the tree right in front of her. She screamed so freakin loud I laughed for 5 minutes. I'm still gonna kill FedEx though. First they tried to deliver it and I told them to hold it at the station. Next day I go up to get it and they lost it.
Sure he did... 3-1 odds says they ended up at your local #1SuperMega China Buffet! Did you notice a slightly different taste to the beef and broccoli? Perhaps a somewhat unusual texture to the General Tso's chicken? The Mu Shu pork seemed a little chewy that week? "Lovely trees" my ass! More like Sweet and Sour Squirrel!
Dog deterrent being more humane and less agile, here the squirrel gets to live. It takes to the trees but can't stand the harassment from the dog, so it only comes in to lift the food and then it makes off into the woods. In UK, it is complicated by this: The native squirrel here is red and very, very cute and people are inordinately attached as they are "part of our natural heritage": The American grey invaded. Look at it. You can't blame people for being militant. The American grey: ;p It has decimated the red. At least that is their theory. They don't really know the reason, but the red dramatically declined except in Scotland and the population of the grey went through the roof. So to redress the balance everyone was to hit the grey with a hammer and love the red. Nonsense. But people are totally serious about it: You are just bad. But it happened in Manchester, so you never know. No seriously, since she took me to see Bambi and Old Yeller my aunt knows what I'm like about animal welfare and she still treats me like her baby niece as families always do, so you're probably right. She probably did tell me it lived to give me a happy ending. Not like that fecker Texmaster. Here Tex, in case you run out of ideas: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/food_and_drink/recipes/article3376363.ece
Nope, they breed like rabbits and foxes. By the zillions. This is why .22's exist. The buggers get my strawberries....Grrrr. We never run out.....of squirrels. Get 'em, tex !!!!!!!!!!!!
Good. Going after new parents then. Think I'm going to return the Maurader. After I got it I found out you have to buy special tanks or a special hand pump costing nearly 200 dollars more on stop of the 600 bucks I've already spent! No thanks. Killed 2 more today.
We in America are very sorry for the decimation of the Red Squirrel. We would also like to apologize for Lady Gaga, Modonna, Britney Spears and the entire state of New Jersey
Funnily enough in Ireland the story is a little different... In our narrative the grey squirrel is British (it was introduced by a member of the ascendancy) not American. Perhaps if it could be re-branded as American public animosity to it might abate.... I still think that a hammer is the appropriate solution... Much kinder than drowning.
