No, we don't KNOW that there was intent, but as you mentioned above, more importantly In order for a conviction to stick, criminal intent must be proven.

yea, we do. It's got nothing to do with whether or not they can prove it.

We know, and so do you. Even if all Trump knew was the Weisselberg and Cohen were going to do whatever it took to either make him money or protect his candidacy, his intent was the same as theirs, and he is responsible for their actions on his behalf. When we are judging the moral character of Donald Trump, that's all we need to know.

Cohen's attorney said he told him that he did it on his own. I think when you're running for President of the United States you pay people to insulate you from these things. Don't ask, don't tell, get it done. I don't believe Trump went line by line on every campaign expense report to make sure every expense was listed. Additionally, I don't believe paying someone who is blackmailing you is necessarily a campaign expense when you're also a celebrity. The allegation harmed him equally on his campaign and his professional life. Even if Trump knew about it, I doubt he knew well enough to know whether it was a campaign or personal expense. He's not an attorney. He paid campaign staff, accountants, and attorneys to take care of these things on his behalf.

No, we don't know. As some have been mentioning, Trump pays people to think for him. We don't know if Trump fully understood that there could be repercussions for what his legal counsel did. IOW, did he really have "criminal" intent in mind?

He was also blackmailed personally. And, the blackmail was paid out of his personal funds. Other people handled his campaign expenses and reporting. The most likely chain of events was that Trump's attorneys found out about the blackmail and informed him. Trump told them to pay her and make it go away. Then he hopped on stage for his 12th rally that week. And now, seven years later some corrupt DA who has a hard-on for going after Trump is bending the law in ways that has never been done before.

Corrupt DA, Bragg, would have a hard time proving Trump willingly committed criminal intent in light of the above succinct summary.

There's a reason Trump is laughing it up and enjoying this attention. He knows this prosecution can't stick to him. Everything else is wishful thinking. People think he's the Lex Luthor of campaign finance law violations when he's really not that bright.

Yea, Don't ask, Don't tell. Trump knew they were committing crimes for him, even if he wasn't involved.

You don't care whether did anything wrong or not, you only care whether or not it was technically legal.

    Vladimir Putin knew his man.

Since he became our President, Trump has created chaos wherever he goes. About to be indicted on multiple criminal charges, Trump has managed to seriously endanger the American political system, and his followers are giddy with the harm he has caused.
    *************************************************************************************************************************************************

For the Presidency in 2024, Trump is the best Republicans can offer.

And now it seems clear Trump has lost his mind. Little wonder as to why forum Republicans are silent about their party's leader.

NBC reports, "Former President Donald Trump escalated his rhetoric against the Manhattan district attorney's probe into a hush money payment made during his 2016 campaign, warning in an overnight post on his Truth Social site about "potential death and destruction" if he is charged in the case.

"An early Friday post on Truth Social marks Trump's most explicit reference to violence yet, echoing his intensified rhetoric during the events that led-up to the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the U.S. Capitol by his supporters."

This is what Trump posted to his followers -- and everyone else.

"What kind of person can charge another person, in this case a former President of the United States, who got more votes than any sitting President in history, and leading candidate (by far!) for the Republican Party nomination, with a Crime, when it is known by all that NO Crime has been committed, & also known that potential death & destruction in such a false charge could be catastrophic for our Country? Why & who would do such a thing? Only a degenerate psychopath that truely [sic] hates the USA!"

Trump likes to play the victim. The Manhattan D.A. is not attacking him. The D.A. is attacking "our ountry."

In a Thursday post, Trump pushed back on suggestions that people remain calm. "OUR COUNTRY IS BEING DESTROYED, AS THEY TELL US TO BE PEACEFUL!"

Unless the majority of his fans are anarchists -- which seems to be a strong possibility but we don't know because they don't talk about Trump -- it is difficult to understand why Trump's popularity is increasing.

We only know that as Trump is fulfilling Vladimir Putin's wildest dreams, he is becoming more popular with the Republican base.

I care about the proper rule of law in this country, and I care about corrupt prosecutors bringing illegitimate cases to harass people they don't like. I'm not a fan of lawfare.

The [Republican] Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday [4/21/2020] reaffirmed its support for the U.S. intelligence community’s conclusion that the Russian government interfered in the 2016 presidential election with the goal of putting Donald Trump in the Oval Office. https://www.politico.com/news/2020/...rms-russia-aimed-to-help-trump-in-2016-198171

If you cared about the rule of law, you'd be waiting to see what evidence the government has instead of just blindly defending Trump.

The stuff we know is less than 10% of what they have. They have thousands of hours of interviews and testimony that we know nothing about.

But you expect the people who benefit the most from these kind of donors to vote against these donors.

It's like expecting these people to create term limits then they would be out of a job they're not going to do that. Their entire profession is about convincing you that you need them.

You can't expect a corrupt system to fix itself

And I'm sure the same standard is applied when it comes to waiting to see if Trump is guilty of anything, right? We don't know what evidence they have, so the rule of law states he's innocent until proven guilty.

That is what grand juries do and operate Cornpop. The DA presents the evidence. The Grand jury can ask questions of any witness the DA presents. Once all the evidence is presented, the grand jury will either indict, called a bill in NY state criminology, or no bill, which means no indictment. Let the process play out and see what comes of it.

the complication here is Trump is a well-known figure, a celebrity, a former POTUS, and so forth. But the grand jury will only weigh on the evidence at hand and determine if there is enough probable cause to indict. The main problem is the media, all of the media, conservative AND Liberal, who want to know everything the grand jury says or does not say, not to mention the witnesses. Personally, I think a judge should put a gag order on this whole affair. And the reason is that will give the grand jury more breathing room to look at the evidence, not the celebrity status. We have had this with Natalie Woods murder, which is still unsolved, and a few other high profile cases where the media has pretty much screwed it up when the grand jury was in session to determine whether to indict or not indict.

Cornpop, the allegation is a state crime. New York State is one of the few states that has a comprehensive campaign finance laws in place. And all of this is based on state crimes from falsified business records to the money being spent on a prostitute and adult film star to have sex, which is basically prostitution, even if it consensual, which does not matter. If you pay money for sex in a quid pro quo, that is the basic definition of prostitution in any state.

yea, I don't know if they have enough evidence to convict him of a crime, but I have plenty to decide he did the things that were illegal and immoral.

No one defending Trump really believes he didn't know his accountant was cheating on his taxes, or that Michael Cohen was going to pay off the porn star he had sex with while his third wife was at home with their newborn baby.

They already did. It already passed and was signed into law. The SCOTUS decided that corporations are people and money is speech.

They need to pass something similar now and force the SCOTUS to revisit Citizens United.

The misdemeanor charge is past the statue of limitations. Can't make a felon charge out of an expired misdemeanor charge any more than you can make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Bragg's case is shot.

you got taken for a ride the people who benefit the most from not following this law just made loopholes right around it that's why you can't get what you want the people that have control over it won't let you and have more power than you.
Edwin politicians create a way to get around that and still get the same money that they want what are you going to do then make another law and another one until there's building stuffed full of paper that's meaningless.

The problem is the criminals in these positions of power. The only thing I understand is more power. That's why citizens need guns.

We know that before he was elected and had any evidence he campaigned on looking for reasons to go after Trump criminally. We know that he is using federal charges to try to turn this misdemeanor into a felony which is ridiculous on its face. That's lawfare. You keep accusing me of things without evidence. I assume you're not Bragg, but this is pretty sketchy.

New York actually has a rule that if someone is out of state it can put a hold on the clock for the statute of limitations. But, it's not something that would play over very well with an objective jury.

What's their rule for upgrading a misdemeanor to a felony?
