Curious, based on a weird rando convo back in '17 I believe it was. Started talking to a stranger that I invited to sit down with me at the Hobbit Cafe here in Houston and learned that among other interesting ideas this dude had running round his skull, was the idea that all the big corporations had on-site daycare facilities. Hahaha. How many folks here have worked for a Fortune 500 company?

I guess if you're asking if any of them do have daycare, I'm sure some do, but none of the ones I worked at ever had one that I am aware of. Though two of them did provide a gym in the basement.

Not sure what the list of current Fortune 500 companies are, but I spent a decade with Ford and I think they're one.

You mean literally working at their corporate headquarters, or just something they own? I mean, lots of people have worked at McDonalds or the like, but that doesn't really get at your question I don't think.

Sounds like a really good perk.... I actually didn't even realize until now where I work now is fortune 500, lol. No they don't, and this is their flagship facility but not HQ.

Ford is ranked #22 for 2023. Grew up with a Ford family in my neighborhood that contained a guy that remains one of my besties. The Dad was a Ford HR guy with a biology degree from the U of Kentucky. The youngest son worked at the Ford truck plant in Louisville. He asserted once around the camp when we were drinking beers and hanging out that there was no way to function at Ford without lying. Nihilistic point-of-view I thought then and continue to think it was today. At the time he made the assertion, the closest thing to working for a corporation I had any experience with was "working" in the Army for 4 years. As it turns out, lots of that experience was transferable, and lots of it wasn't. I've never been into lying and harbor significant disdain for those who are into it. Arguing one's point simply to win an argument is a similar tactic that I find myself almost incapable of reacting to in a dispassionate and professional manner.

I've worked a number of years for a couple of Fortune 500 companies with a few Fortune 500 clients. None of them have daycare facilities, and all of them follow the word of the CEO as if he were God Almighty, but mostly such words seldom really have ever trickled down to any actionable tasks at the level I've worked at.

The CBS show Survivor is instructive regarding the way human nature bubbles up people in these organizations. Alliances are I guess always a major part of the process - I wouldn't know much about it though because I've generally limited my personal interactions in these organizations to two things: 1) Those required to get the job done and 2) Socialization just to chat about stuff. Never have I attempted to form any relationship with the intent to climb a ladder or get a bigger paycheck.

Most recently I've been hired in to a company at a level that is almost impossible to achieve for a person with my approach to work to have done so as an internally long time employee. It's a bit of psychic mind-f this company plays with it's employees in this regard as well as in several others.

My sister and I were having a phone conversation a few weeks ago and she began to share with me her opinion on how corporations work, without ever having worked for one. As was the case with the old hippie looking dude Trump supporter that was of the opinion that if the US were run more like a corporation then we'd all be better off.

Tell me, would you advocate that we'd all be better off if the Federal government were run more like Ford?

This is the gist of this poll - lot's of opinions around here about politics and business, curious to see how many folks here that post on these matters are like hippie dude and my sister, or like me, at least to the extent they've been an actual real time member of a corporate tribe.

I worked for over a decade, between Allied Chemical (now Honeywell) and the old AT&T, which was the largest company in the world until the government ordered divestiture.

Nevermind, actually it's not fortune 500, there was just an article saying that in terms of financial size, it would rank high on the fortune 500 but isn't actually a part of it. I think it doesn't qualify because it's technically non-profit.

Like my other poll about educational attainment levels this one is also a flawed broad brush. Working for Koch Industries would be the same exact thing, for example. But Koch Industries is privately held and therefore unlisted as a member of the F500.

I've worked for two, over 3 years each. Great perks, over all a fine experience, but I've found more fulfilling work elsewhere. Still, the last one treated me great when I decided to leave and even offered a generous severance.

I work for a fortune 500 financial company.

While we have many perks, free child care is not one of them. We will however give those whith children a huge subsidy to help offset the cost.

We do offer 6 months maternaty leave however for both mothers AND fathers, which is nice

    We have a free gym.

Lots of discounted city ( Chicago ) service ammenaties.

Its not all bad, but its sometimes annoying being a faceloss cog in the wheel

I worked for companies ranked this way for a total of 24 years. Mostly it was very good. It could have been better, but I'm sure I was better off than people in much smaller companies.
