Funnily enough, I cop to being “deist” because I’m not up for fending off theists with a chip on their shoulder for atheists.
My “god” (such as it is) is our local star (Sol) as it is the only thing that we can actually observe driving life on this planet.
It’s great, if I overdo the “worship” it burns me.
It shines whether or not I “believe in it”.
If it “went out” we’d have about two weeks before humans all died out, freeing earth from this primate infestation it’s currently been going to through these last million years or so.

Sneaky crafty and sinfully calculated language when you say "Jesus
did not turn away sinners" as a response to my post that you quoted.

    How so?

Because you very well KNOW that the Jesus that did not turn away sinners
also TOLD THEM TO STOP SINNING . . . (and the entire New Testament
says the same thing and you KNOW it does)

    . . . .BUT . . .

. . . . to STOP SINNING is the very last thing that you want to see happen\
here in Western Civilization and America.

My view is that you LOVE sin and want everybody to be free to engage in any kind of
sexual sins that depraved humans can come up with.

    Read Romans 1:18-32

I'm open to proof about supernatural forces. Someone comes and does miracles, I'll look at it. Nothing for 2000 years and counting. We just had a disaster in Turkey and Syria, where was your god then? Weeping and gnashing his/her teeth?
It's time people grew up, became adult, and stopped preaching this nonsense.

Yes. Especially when it’s in the form it’s in today. If it were practiced the way the bible is intended to guide such practice, I wouldn’t have any problem with it because it wouldn’t be bothering or threatening anyone.

You are free to tell people what you want. That is NOT the issue. It has NEVER been the issue.

The issue is about you and others attempting to use our government to punish people who don't act in accordance with YOUR personal religious beliefs.

Sin? What a crock of BS.

It's a sin for a woman to go to church with her head uncovered. But it's not a sin to stone to death your disobedient child.

This is just one of the rock solid reasons that separation of church and state is critical, justifying it's codification in our constitution.

The very idea of turning sins into laws is just too crazy wrong for words.

This post I was referring to was the post immediately before my post you quoted:
Hypocrites come in all shapes and sizes. Christians, followers of MLK, etc. What's the point of pointing out Christians' hypocrisy when hypocrisy is everywhere?

    Try and keep up.

If you're an atheist, you have no clue what separation of church and state meant to Jefferson...The misinterpretation of the concept of separation of church and state is probably the second most misinterpreted phase in The Constitution (the first being the last 13 words of the second amendment).

Jefferson certainly didn't want one organized religion to determine all things religious in America and Jefferson probably didn't believe in organized religion, but Jefferson definitely believed in a higher power which was more important than man's government therefore Jefferson wanted religion in American government...Just not one main, er, state religion which determined all things religious.

Who gives a flying **** what Jefferson wanted? A free country separates church from state to protect its citizens from tyranny.

We saw this with same sex marriage.

Can the courts determine that same sex marriage is forbidden, because that is the religious view of an array of Christian denominations (such as Evangelical Protestants)?

That would be an establishment of religions that view that as sin, as there is no other justification that could be made. Those of other religions would not be free of the government imposed constraints of those religions.

@cabse5 is going with the fake conservative revisionist version of MLK. The actual MLK talked about historical injustices and their modern implications (aka CRT) all of the time, openly advocated for reparations, and leaned heavily toward democratic socialism. If he were alive today, cabse5 and the other right wingers would be calling him a Marxist . . . just as right wingers during MLK's own time did.

Same sex marriage and hetro-marriage are separate but equal institutions. For example, I don't demand all Mets baseball fans be Yankees fans yet SCOTUS demands all couples who're legally bound together be married. Same sex marriage was a stupid decision on the part of SCOTUS.

And this was a bad comparison. Completely meaningless. Try reading this over again. It's complete nonsense.

If there were "a boatload of misinformation," you'd be able to point out even one thing I got wrong. Go on. Try.

MLK had the famous quote of considering the content of one's character and not the color of one's skin which is a statement which is the opposite of reparations, er, wokeness, er equity.

Yes, I'm very familiar with your side's misreading of that statement. You guys try to use if for bull **** "color blind" philosophy that MLK never supported.

"The problems of racial injustice and economic injustice cannot be solved without a radical redistribution of political and economic power." - MLK

"I contend that the cry of 'Black Power' is, at bottom, a reaction to the reluctance of white power to make the kind of changes necessary to make justice a reality for the Negro. I think that we’ve got to see that a riot is the language of the unheard. And, what is it that America has failed to hear? It has failed to hear that the economic plight of the Negro poor has worsened over the last few years" - MLK

"But it is not enough for me to stand before you tonight and condemn riots. It would be morally irresponsible for me to do that without, at the same time, condemning the contingent, intolerable conditions that exist in our society. These conditions are the things that cause individuals to feel that they have no other alternative than to engage in violent rebellions to get attention. And I must say tonight that a riot is the language of the unheard. And what is it America has failed to hear?… It has failed to hear that the promises of freedom and justice have not been met. And it has failed to hear that large segments of white society are more concerned about tranquility and the status quo than about justice and humanity." - MLK

"Again we have deluded ourselves into believing the myth that Capitalism grew and prospered out of the Protestant ethic of hard work and sacrifice. The fact is that capitalism was built on the exploitation and suffering of black slaves and continues to thrive on the exploitation of the poor – both black and white, both here and abroad." - MLK

The plights and unmitigated failures of the black community are caused by their leaders and influencers. Black people have really bad leaders and influencers. Black people leaders and influencers are neocommunist, for example.

I liken the plight of the black community to a basketball player who refuses to tie his shoes while playing basketball. The untied shoe result is disastrous but the black community blames the disaster on everyone but themselves. cabse5 03/06/23

"I imagine you already know that I am much more socialistic in my economic theory than capitalistic… [Capitalism] started out with a noble and high motive… but like most human systems it fell victim to the very thing it was revolting against. So today capitalism has out-lived its usefulness." - MLK

“Call it democracy, or call it democratic socialism, but there must be a better distribution of wealth within this country for all God’s children.” - MLK

“We must recognize that we can’t solve our problem now until there is a radical redistribution of economic and political power… this means a revolution of values and other things. We must see now that the evils of racism, economic exploitation and militarism are all tied together… you can’t really get rid of one without getting rid of the others… the whole structure of American life must be changed. America is a hypocritical nation and [we] must put [our] own house in order.” - MLK

“The evils of capitalism are as real as the evils of militarism and evils of racism.” - MLK

“I am now convinced that the simplest approach will prove to be the most effective – the solution to poverty is to abolish it directly by a now widely discussed matter: the guaranteed income… The curse of poverty has no justification in our age. It is socially as cruel and blind as the practice of cannibalism at the dawn of civilization, when men ate each other because they had not yet learned to take food from the soil or to consume the abundant animal life around them. The time has come for us to civilize ourselves by the total, direct and immediate abolition of poverty.” - MLK

“You can’t talk about solving the economic problem of the Negro without talking about billions of dollars. You can’t talk about ending the slums without first saying profit must be taken out of slums. You’re really tampering and getting on dangerous ground because you are messing with folk then. You are messing with captains of industry. Now this means that we are treading in difficult water, because it really means that we are saying that something is wrong with capitalism.” - MLK

"[W]e are saying that something is wrong … with capitalism…. There must be better distribution of wealth and maybe America must move toward a democratic socialism." - MLK

MLK disagreed. But I understand your eagerness to run away from the topic you introduced.
