No kidding, I just can't believe what I've read on this thread. Apparently slavery in the US wasn't so bad, according to some, as long as they were fed and housed well - a notion that real historians have trashed. What was it someone on MSNBC called Bill O'Reilly years ago - Billo the Clown? It suits him.....
The Africans who did not come here because of Slavery, You know being sold by other Black Africans...have starved to death, died from disease, AIDS, civil wars and tribal fighting by the millions. And of course they still have slavery today. Any questions that slavery was the best thing ever to happen to the Africans, who got out if that (*)(*)(*)(*)hole?
The American idea of freedom was that only free white men over 21 with a certain net worth were free and that eveyone else was dirt. They were great at propaganda and lousy as humans. The English wanted everyone to be free and spent untold amounts of money and lives making it happen. The Americans spent untold amounts of money and lives to enslave people and to keep them in lifelong slavery. The English may have taxed people without representation but they paid people for their labor. The Americans didn't tax slaves nor did it represent them but they sold their labor and lives to enrich themselves. The English had women rulers. The Americans didn't allow women to vote until August 18, 1920. All of the talking heads on Fox are racists. They probably have their own klavern.
They didn't die to free anyone. They died to preserve the Union and to keep slavery from spreading into the new territories. Slavery existed in the North until the end of the war in 1865.
Yeah, right. Slavery was ended in all states by the Union winning the Civil War. Those that died did so to preserve the Union and end slavery. Preserving the United States was necessary to end slavery. There is no disputing that.
If those Union soldiers died fighting to free the slaves... They sure got suckered by Lincoln because several Union States still had slavery. I guess they were as ignorant of the facts as you are. What a shame.
Slavery was gone completely in the year the war ended (1865) with the passage of the 13th amendment. Unfortunately Lincoln was also gone. He was one of the last of the ~ 300,000 to die to free the slaves. Those are the facts.
Been to Africa lately? I'll be there next week. The entire subsaharan continent is a total craphole, only made livable by Whites and East Asians. Everybody was a slave at some time. Get over it.
Wrong. When the Civil War was over, and all the Confederate slaves were free, and Lincoln was dead...the Union still had slavery. The 13th Amendment did not pass until later to finally free the last of the Union slaves. Ignorance is bliss. I feel sorry for the good men of the Union who got suckered by Lincoln to their deaths.
So tell us AFM, how many slaves from States in his own country, the Union, did Lincoln free during the Civil War?
Actually the full line was some seemed to think slavery wasn't so bad as long as the slaves were fed and housed well. One poster has multiple posts on this thread comparing slavery to modern day military service, another poster has compared colonial "taxation without representation" to slavery, another poster mentioned slaves were human capital & profit earning assets and so on........ My point is, like Bill O'Reilly tried to do, some seem to want to "make it better" by implying yes, it was slavery, but everything possible was done to make the slaves lives easier and better. It is utter nonsense...... I've linked an article below about this but I've cut out a paragraph of what a senator from SC said to justify slavery circa 1857 - it is a classic: "Some 20 years later, another senator from South Carolina, James Henry Hammond, made the same point. Speaking to Northerners, he contended: The difference between us is, that our slaves are hired for life and well compensated; there is no starvation, no begging, no want of employment among our people, and not too much employment either. Yours are hired by the day, not cared for, and scantily compensated, which may be proved in the most painful manner, at any hour in any street in any of your large towns. Why, you meet more beggars in one day, in any single street of the city of New York, than you would meet in a lifetime in the whole South. Of course, that wasn’t quite all of it. Hammond added that the manifest inferiority of blacks further not only justified but practically sanctified the endeavor: We do not think that whites should be slaves either by law or necessity." The linked article contains comments by First Lady Abigail Adams, who witnessed the construction of the White House. http://www.theatlantic.com/politics...the-long-tradition-of-slavery-apology/493223/
When the Civil War started Lincoln allowed Maryland, Delaware, Kentucky, Missouri and New Jersey, to keep slavery as long as they stayed loyal to the Union. The Capital of the Union, Washington DC also had slavery. Then Lincoln illegally made West Virginia a new State and allowed them to keep slavery also.
O'Reilly stated in his response to the dishonest outrage that "it is a given that slavery is an abomination." He reported the historical facts which were completely distorted by the usual suspects in the left biased media. There is nothing new about that and there is nothing honest about that. Have you actually read or listened to his exact words ?? - - - Updated - - - Those were border states and that was a political decision necessary in Lincoln's judgement to win the war and end slavery completely.
The poor are not so poor, the rich are great people who love to share, christmas has a war being waged against it, yadda yadda.
Wrong party. The Democrats already have that in place today. Separate but unequal facilities like schools, housing ect.........check Keep blacks uneducated so they can't improve themselves.......check Disarm blacks by using laws and regulations to limit or remove entirely firearms.......check Democrats run every single heavily minority area in this country virtuallyuncontested and have so for 50 plus years and have enslaved blacks to a lifetime of welfare, poor education and public services and crime. You do the KKK proud.
Are you saying New Jersey was a border State? They kept slavery until the war was over, they only had a handful of slaves, but they sure as,(*)(*)(*)(*) did not want to free them. Then when New Jersey voted for the 13th Amendment ratification to free the slaves, after the war was over...They voted NO. But you knew that, and everyone from the North knew that right?
