The 707 has a better safety record so far than the 737 Max. And it came early, the 707 is the aircraft that ushered passenger service into the jet age and replaced the old triple tail.

In this case, that is because Boeing cheated the system in bringing the MAX to market. All earlier iterations of the 737 did not require MCAS.

But why would you want to substitute software to attempt to compensate for a less stable airframe?

The airframe should have gone back to the drawing board.

    You are exactly right.

The only reason a manufacturer would do something like that would be to get their product to market more quickly, by avoiding the very lengthy and expensive certification process. Boeing cheated the system and incorporated the MAX under the existing type certificate for 737.

I have no argument with that. The 707 was a great plane for it's time, but even Travolta upgraded his 707's engines and avionics systems because todays technology is far superior to the 50's jet age aircraft.

All airframes become unstable when pilots exceed the aircraft's limitations.

What Really Brought Down the 737s Max? Complacency, unfounded assumptions, lackadaisical design, and corruption, by the Airlines, the pilots, the mechanics, Boeing's engineers, but not outsourcing software to India.

However, after reading the article, for me, the most egregious error lies with Boeing's engineers--they were conspicuously complacent and overly confident and left too much room for human error and vices.

To clarify: The corruption is the Indonesian governments and the Indonesian Airlines. Boeing’s error was complacency feed by over confidence and unfounded assumptions.
