Screw Uber and Lyft. They are a bunch of greedy scumbags who don’t want to share their good fortune with the people who made them rich in the first place....Good riddance! I hope all the drivers get together and form their own app.
How do you “think” it’s your Uber driver? You get the flipping make, model, and color of the car along with the license plate and the drivers name. Driver gets your name and asks if you are “your name” when he picks you up. Pretty hard to f-up an Uber ride.
"Good fortune" "Made them rich" Yeah, Uber loses 50 cents on every ride. A regular cash cow of a business.
It's good news in that they'll be financially better off until they're replaced by technology, an inevitability. At least for the period they're employed they'll earn decent income.
If they lose 50 cents on every ride, they are morons who deserve to go broke. They don’t have to buy cars or gas.
--Drivers want to unionize but that has nothing to do with the law, which simply demands a clearer definition of what an independent contractor is...or is NOT. In the case of these companies, it seems they tried to get away with saying that the drivers are not employees but if your business is rides, it is difficult to imagine how drivers are not your employees, seeing as how they DRIVE the cars that GIVE the "rides" that make money for your company. Sure, maybe it sucks to be Lyft and Uber but unfortunately that is what happens when you base your company economics on a poorly executed labor model, one so terrible that it inspired a law specifically aimed at such labor models. Your company INSPIRED such a law clearly because you were exploiting your talent. Sorry, but I feel no sympathy for the CEO's of these companies.
Uber started so people with a few hours a day, just needing some extra cash, students, part time workers. You knew what you would make per trip yours to take our not, you are autonomous, you work your own hours. Now some tried to make it their full time job and want to change the entire business model and those people who just wanted the part time flexible hours will be pushed aside. The workers will demand scheduled times and fix wages and drive them out of business.
They are/were independent contractors who worker their own hours, on their own schedules choosing which work they would accept and they get paid a commission of the transaction.
How many Uber/Lyft drivers have died? I mean, to not live is to be dead, right? What's the body count up to?
You probably would've said the same thing about the unionized workers at Buzzfeed, Think Progress, etc... And you'd have been wrong then too.
And California has decided that if your job is the mainstay and the key underpinning of the economic model, you are NOT an independent contractor.
And look where California's decisions have gotten California. Poop-smeared, broke, and invaded by illegal aliens.
Damn. I take Uber often and my son uses it too. My wife and I like to go out, drink, have a great time, and Uber home. We have used them for concerts, sport events, and a whole lot more. It's so damn convenient. I will still use it on my business travel, but it will be a real loss to me in SoCal. It's always a shame when the government gets too involved telling people what they can and cannot do. Authoritarians suck.
What about Uber drivers who to remain as they ate with flexible jobs and flexible hours you know INDEPENDENT and why should government officials even involve themselves in a private business matter? If someone wants to work driving full time go work for a taxi company with required and scheduled shifts or a delivery company.
