It is what it is. You can charge 80% of the battery in 5 mins, but if you prefer ICE, then you should buy one. I know I did. Why do you have such problem accepting this?

Generally, folks are aware of the fact that Massachusetts v. EPA gave the EPA the right to regulate CO2 emissions in 2007. The most current regulations, promulgated by Biden's EPA in March, requires automakers to make about 60% of the vehicles they sell in 2032 EVs. That's on the way to a complete ICE ban in 2035.

This is absurd on its face and portends a complete collapse of the automotive industry along with other economic destruction.

However, Massachusetts is tied to Chevron but not directly. It will take another Supreme Court decision to overturn it. This probably won't be a big deal since EPA was the defendant in Massachusetts and has already developed the full legal case as to why they can't legally regulate CO2, but for the next couple months, ICE is on track to be banned.

It's not that people can't accept buying ICE vehicles, they actually love the idea, it's that government's still on track to ban them.

The Harvard Business Review has a different view of the waste created by solar panels.

“If early replacements occur as predicted by our statistical model, they can produce 50 times more waste in just four years than IRENA anticipates. That figure translates to around 315,000 metric tonnes of waste, based on an estimate of 90 tonnes per MW weight-to-power ratio.

Alarming as they are, these stats may not do full justice to the crisis, as our analysis is restricted to residential installations. With commercial and industrial panels added to the picture, the scale of replacements could be much, much larger.”

That is the point. We don't have enough copper and Biden is banning mining

Every time I look into the details of some restriction that the Biden Administration has put in place, after analyzing the details, I am usually in agreement. They strike a good balance between business and our natural attractions.

America does not have a copper shortage.

    The data suggest otherwise.

Well, that is good news for MT Isa and Aus

Copper and other heavy ores tend to settle at the top of Lava domes - Aus is an old continent with old extinct volcanoes that have almost eroded down to the lava domes hence we have some stinking large deposits

Currently in the US buses use more energy per passenger mile than private vehicles and all other forms of mass transit. Only Ubers and taxis use more energy per passenger mile.

Cool! Yeah, “80% of needs” is not a “massive copper shortage”. American mines can easily meet the demand, to increase revenue, but yes, there is also the import option with our friendly Australian trading partner!

The site in question is a beautiful natural area in Minnesota, and the locals are absolutely against the mining. But the eco-destroyers want to let Corporate America have free reign over all of our natural beauty.

Whereas most of our mines are in desert areas, which have huge appeal for me - lived for years in Mt Isa and the landscape is truly different
    upload_2024-7-5_1-0-7.jpeg

If you do a google map view there are a heap of mines in and around Mt Isa some of which open and close depending on stock market prices. Of course one of the most infamous only 50k away is Mary Kathleen which was a uranium mine.

I have stood just about where that picture was taken. Standing in an old uranium mine is bragging rights!:D

We do not have enough copper to go all-electric like Democrats want

Meeting “80% of needs” would drive significant price increases and disruption. And in foreign markets we would be competing with other eager customers, again driving up prices.

Yes. There would be a bidding war for copper. The price of all products using copper would increase.

We could strip mine the entire US, and the US would pull in more revenue. What then happens? Revenues from tourism go down, and the quality of life in America goes down.

So the EV thing is all about Australian blackmail?

Off topic. In the US plastic is recycled.
