Steve Isaac, director of golf course management at the R&A, said: "There is no question it is becoming a huge factor. I believe golf is more impacted by climate change than any other sport aside from skiing.

"We are feeling it now with increases in unplayable holes, winter course closures and disruption to professional tournaments. And the future threats are very real."

Given that golf is one of the favorite sports of the upper 1 percent, this may finally alarm even the most obstinate, climate change-denying rich people.

Seems like just the other day the ski industry was saying the same thing. Then the record-breaking winters came one after another. On to golf I guess. LOL

I just couldn't help myself. I laughed. Yes, I laughed. Literally at the superficiality of the comments made by the guy from R&A and the article in general. Heres a news flash. The coastal courses have been at risk of being eroded since they put them there. Why? Because the sea will invariably erode the coast line. This is functionally part of weather. There hasn't been any measurable differentiation in coastal erosion between now and historic levels. Asserting that now there is, well, that's just stupid. Ask the nice folks at Pebble, or Tory or for that matter, any coastal course in the US about erosion and it isn't a new conversation. The only purpose an article like this is intended to do is sway weak minded folks who then become fearful their membership at Royal Quineby is in jeopardy... Utterly laughable.

Agreed. The article is a great example of how to lie with statistics. Plus it was obviously written in a "fact free zone".

    Mr. Isaac’s resume includes:

Steve Isaac provides secretarial support for the European Golf Association Golf Course Committee whose remit is to monitor developments in EU legislation which may affect golf courses in Europe and to build relationships with appropriate contacts in Brussels.

Prior to working for the R&A, Steve spent 18 years as a turf grass agronomist with the Sports Turf Research Institute, Europe’s leading turf grass research and consultancy service. In this role, he visited around 100 golf courses a year, giving advice on management, construction and environmental issues.

Steve has an honours degree in applied biology.

I think it is fair to say that Mr. Isaac knows a lot more about golf courses than you do.

So, the man's work is turf. Ok, so he's an agronomist. That doesn't make him an authority on coastal erosion, nor does it make his assertions of climatic modification or impending doom any more credible. I would take his advice on which variety of bent, or zoysia grass to use on my greens, but that would be the extent of my willingness to take him seriously.

He also is knowledgeable on how to lie with statistics. Anytime someone compares data points in one specific year and compares them to another specific year without showing the trend line of the data set and proposes a conclusion based on those two data points they are most likely "lying" using statistics.

Which statistics did Isaac misuse? I don't see any statistics quoted in the article.

LOL, again mistaking weather for climate change. Isn't it amazing the the 'results' of climate change are way off in the future but suddenly everyone can claim it is happening now based on weather?

Climate Change is not affecting anything. It is not defined; it is not quantified. It is not science in any way shape or form.

    Agreed.

Naturally, cherrypicking endpoints is a core tactic of global warming deniers. The trends all confirm AGW theory. Deniers are forbidden by their political cult from admitting that, so they're forced to lie with statistics by cherrypicking endpoints.

Deniers hammer on the cherrypicking fallacy in other ways. For example, they'll cherrypick a single solar scientist and then, from that person's opinion, claim cooling is imminent. They'll cherrypick one failed wind farm or solar farm, and then claim all such farms are failures. They'll cherrypick a single economist and, from that person's opinion, claim warming will be beneficial. And so on.

More comedy. Which economist is that ??

How is your reading coming along ??

Here is a free book for you available online as a pdf. “Doubt and Certainty in Climate Science “ by Alan Longhurst.

I will just pick Arrhenius that the true believers bring up and agree with him that CO2 will be beneficial.
