My new top-of-the-line phone has more RAM than my new top-of-the-line laptop.

My current rig is a slightly modified PowerSpec G467.
    Intel i9-10900k
    RTX3080
    32GB RAM
    My minor modifications:
    1) Stripped out the awful Lian LI RBG fans (loud, ineffective.. hate RGB), replaced with Be Quiet! BL066 120mm
    2) Added 2TB M.2

    Screens: L: 27"- 11080p 60hx, M: 27"-1440p 144hz, R: 24" Huion Kamvas Pro 24" on adjustable arm
Storage: two 1TB external M.2 drives, 12TB external HDD (M.2s mostly for steam libraries, HDD for long term storage)
Keyboard: Logitech wireless sometingsomething.. old, works great, no need to change it
Mouse: Logitech Powerplay Mouse Pad and G502 mouse

Generally when I am playing or working I have my main interest on the middle screen with a movie or video on the left monitor, and messaging apps, email on the Kamvas ... when I am using the Kamvas to draw I can pull in down to the desk in front of my main screen.

The whole system in black themed with minimal lights, and no RGB when I can get away with it. It all sits on top of a large jet black L shaped desk.

I like it very much, even though I still fight daily with clutter.

Wow! Your PC 2 is more powerful than my PC1. I try to get 6 years out of each build so I'm saving up for a new rig Q1 2024. Maybe Q4 2023 as huge sales happen around then.

    For now:
    Ryzen 7 1700
    RX 480 8 Gig DDR 5
    1 TB Samsung SSD C:\
4 TB WD internal, 4 TB WD External
    16 Gig of RAM.

Use a 39" Vizio LED TV as main monitor, Philips 32" 1080p curve 75 hz computer monitor to my left that runs videos while I do work on the TV.

Stuff is taking up more RAM these days. I used to have difficulty getting over 6 Gig in use and wondered why I needed more than 8. Today? It can hit 10 easy. My next build will start with at least 32 Gig.

Amazon had a really good sale and I couldn't resist. Built a desktop about 6 months early.
    Ryzen 9 7900X3D
RX 6750 XT 12 Gig RAM
    64 Gig DDR5
    2 TB M2 Samsung 990
    2x16 TB Western Digital x7200
850 Watt Gold rated power supply.
Now I need to save up for a better monitor.

We're using a new smartpig at work, and it (supposedly) requires a lot of ram to process all the data. Turns out that isn't true... but I do have a nice HP 'Victus' gaming laptop now as a result. I picked it up as a 'scratch and dent' so it was like 50% off, but I have been able to locate no scratches nor dents. Works great so far. And I think its about on par with my formidable but now several years old desktop that I built.

    CPU-12th Gen Intel Core i7-12650H, 2300 Mhz, 10 Core
GPU- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti Laptop
    16GB memory
    500GB SSD
    144Hz Monitor

Should suffice for playing Starfield when it comes out in a month and a half, while I contemplate upgrading my desktop.

There was a comparable ASUS laptop at the 'scratch and dent' store that I should've bought instead, but it only had 8GB of installed ram (with an available slot for more), and I thought, at the time, that I needed all the ram rather immediately for the job we were doing. Oh well.

I looked up your stats for your several year old PC and yeah, that is a big leap forward.
    Congratulations!

    :roflol:

I got into building computers with cheap motherboards and CPUs from eBay, way back in the day of WinXP, even before servicepack 2. I programed the OS and used some pretty good software available free from CNet.... even an old (for the time) PIII running at 850mhz (single core of course) and a whooping 1gb ram ran fine.

Now? Still using old components... and programming with Linux OS. I gave the finger to Windows when they phased-out Win7.

    Linux OS

Last time I played a game was Sid Meier's 'Railroad Tycoon' in the 90s. :)

It began in 1989 with a Mac IICX, a 19" CRT and a CAD app for work. In 2001, got a stock Gateway, an 18" flatscreen and the CAD app ported to WinXP. Started Linux at the original build and dual booted until I installed Windows/CAD in VirtualBox. Maybe 8/9 years ago I saved Windows as a VirtualBox file and have since used only Linux.

Original build upgrades were mostly failed hardware (mobo, drives, screens, etc), but the goal was the same: quiet, cool and a general use CPU (as the 4160 was in 2015). All fans set to minimum so no noise sitting 2' from case. With extra fans and lapping the heatsink, it keeps stuff cool. Linked system stats show OSs at idle in Conky.

The HDDs are backup and storage, kept parked until wanted. The SSDs are Linux, one for daily use and the other for trying interesting and dumb ideas. Next component to bite the dust will be an easy excuse to tinker s'more. I'm happy with what I've got, especially the case and a Fluxbox desktop.
