    Of course they are.

Congress working to strike last-minute immigration deals

A handful of bipartisan senators are working to close separate 11-hour immigration deals before Republicans take control of the House in January, making the politically tricky deals even more difficult to achieve.

Senators Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) and Thom Tillis (RN.C.) have outlined a potential immigration proposal that would provide a path to legalization for 2 million undocumented immigrants brought to the United States as children, known as ” dreamers,” in exchange for at least $25 billion in increased funding for border patrol and border security. The bipartisan framework, which is in motion, would also extend Title 42 by at least a year until new “regional processing centers” envisioned by the bill can be opened. The Trump administration instituted Title 42 amid the coronavirus pandemic, arguing that the immediate deportation of migrants was necessary because of the public health crisis.

Meanwhile, Senators Michael F. Bennet (D-Colo.) and Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) are negotiating a narrower bill based on a House-approved measure that provided a path to citizenship for some undocumented farm workers. The senators have not yet reached an agreement, but hope to reach one this month before the end of the lame-duck session, said a person familiar with the negotiations who, like others in this report, on condition of anonymity spoke with describe the situation candidly.

The only thing that the two parties can seem to agree on is amnesty for illegals, and now they're trying to sneak these through.

Yeah I can hardly blame the Democrats on this; they all support amnesty openly, but the Republicans are the ones who are trying to slide it in.

This is the only country the dreamers ever known.
They graduated HS and some college here.
This is their home. Why not make them legal citizens?

Sounds like something they should consider. $25B is a big coin for border security.

Go to Russia illegally and see where it lands you. Ten years hard labor in Siberia that's what.

Not in exchange for amnesty. We made that Lucy and the football deal in 1986. Never again.

Ok. Status quo then since you like it so much.

She went legally, but smuggled drugs.

The status quo is better than an amnesty deal.

I don't know why you guys find it so difficult to support border enforcement unless you get to reward millions of lawbreakers in the process.

You got it. Just stop complaining about things you have no interest in fixing.

I didn't say anything about what I support or don't support. I simply said that a compromise like the one they suggested might actually work, because that is how things get done. The "my way or the highway" never works.

You can call the 'dreamers' law-breakers or anything you want, but they were brought here by their parents, so its not like it was their decision, and they were raised in US, and for the most part speak fluent English. I don't see a problem with that compromise.

They have been "close" to a deal on immigration so many times in the past 20 years.

    It's not happening.

I don't think they really want to fix it, because its a valuable political tool to fire up the base (like abortion was). Refusing to compromise one inch is usually proof that they prefer to keep the problem as opposed to get rid of it.

No it won't work. It's already been tried and failed, so never again. If you, as a Democrat, are unwilling to provide border security unless you get millions of lawbreakers amnestied, than we don't have a basis for a compromise or a discussion. It appears you don't have any interest in fixing the problem.

You actually think it has something to do with me :D:D So naive. I don't have a problem with border security, and I can assure you that neither party worries about my take on it. The topic, however, is about the two parties discussing a potential compromise, and I can assure you that they won't worry about your take on it either.

As I said, if the decision makers think like you (like a party apologist) and reject compromises, then you (and I, and everyone) will have to settle for status quo. It's what you want, and you'll probably get it.

And please spare me from the childish trolling and labeling. Its lame as hell.

If you think the "decision makers" think like me you have a very bad reading on this, or these compromise bills wouldn't be floating about in the first place.

    Decision makers = Majority Vote.

We are a democracy (for now).

    A little good news...

    Tillis Amnesty Deal Is Dead

After outcry from conservatives and Republican lawmakers who weren't willing to betray the GOP's commitment to the rule of law, legal immigration, and border security, an attempt to grant mass amnesty to DACA beneficiaries is, according to reporting on Wednesday night, dead.

Unsurprisingly, the fatally flawed legislative framework that was supposed to gin up support on both sides of the political aisle in the U.S. Senate did exactly the opposite as Republicans who limped across the midterm election finish line with barely a majority in the House and a loss in the Senate were not ready to hitch their names to a bill that was toxic among Republican voters.
