You are not responding to me I know. But I am going to comment on your post. I don't think the Covid response demonstrates any fringe conspiracy theories. But it does demonstrate:

1. How quickly politicians will curtail freedom to a major or minor degree in a real or claimed emergency;

2. How quickly people will accept curtailment of their freedom in a real or claimed emergency;

3, How quickly anything put out by a government is accepted as gospel by a population in a state of panic;

4. How selective memory becomes in the aftermath of something like Covid. For example I now hear many liberals claim in an aggressive way that a Covid vax shot was never claimed to prevent Covid. Rather they say the vax was promoted as reducing the severity of Covid. That is not how I remember things, but perhaps my memory has been damaged damaged by "fringe conspiracy theories". lol

I have to add one thing. Several months ago is got Covid. The two shots and a booster did not prevent it. But my doctor quickly put me on an antiviral drug Paxlovid. So I was oinly sick a few days and within about 10 days was fine. Can't help but remember how Trump was attacked for daring to muse about an anti-viral drug.

 

Agreed. And I would add extreme disappointment that only a few politicians bothered to study and understand the true characteristics of the virus and formulate policy accordingly. In my opinion Democrats were very quick to shut down the economy because economic performance was the greatest accomplishment of the Trump administration. Because the economy was not functioning economic performance could not be used as an accomplishment of Trump as an argument for reelection.

My 97 year old mother in law was fully vaccinated and boosted. She does not have any of the CDC defined preconditions which made her at risk but of course she is much older than most. She got Covid. She also immediately started on Paxlovid luckily because we were there visiting. She was bed ridden for 3 days but in a couple of weeks was fine. And remains so to this day.

 

Another reason why I'm so glad I retired to Texas. In March 2021, our governor signed an Executive Order which banned all the China Virus Tyranny... from mandatory mask wearing to business/school closures and all the rest. While we watched blue staters living on their knees, we were free to get on with our lives. We still joke about how our kids will be doctors and astronauts while blue state kids will still be in the pajamas trying to read.

70+ here. CA is an absolutely beautiful state but it’s a political and infrastructure mess. The resources of the fifth largest economy in the world are completely squandered by the morons in Sacramento.

 

After Action Review... a military training tool. At Makin Island in WWII, we won a battle everyone thought we should lose. Brigadier General S.L.A. Marshall was dispatched to find out what happened. He went around asking questions of each Soldier. He pieced together the details and found that one guy with one machine gun really made the difference. But in the process, he found that he was causing the Soldiers themselves to think about what they had done and what the results were. Instead of being preached to, they thought for themselves and LEARNED. I spent a lot of my time in the Army training Soldiers with a laser training simulation system called MILES that allowed Soldiers to train realistically, then learn from their successes and failures by conducting AAR's. AAR's are used in all the services now, and even Harvard has adopted the process to enhance learning. I actually had the opportunity to meet with BG S.L.A. Marshall when I was a young Lieutenant. I often reflect on how much more I could have learned from him if I had met him later in my career.

 

I fully understand. That's why I left CA when I retired and moved to beautiful, free TEXAS.

The VOTERS in Texas, as in EVERY STATE will decide what abortion laws/regulations (if any) will be enacted. Women vote too. They will have their say. So will the defenseless unborn children. That's called democracy.

 

Don't pay any attention to someone who so proud of the Deep State... they use one of the worst branches as their avatar's name. Ever post by him should be filtered thru the knowledge of what Pres D Trump as exposed them to be... unelected tyrants and totalitarians

People who do not believe that life begins at conception but only begins at birth will never have second thoughts concerning abortion. We have teo friends who had abortions when younger who now deeply regret their termination of lives.

 

Personhood begins at birth; a unique human life begins with fertilization.

You can go looking for surveys of women who have had abortions and they generally express that they were relieved and they don't have resulting mental health problems.

It's a tough call for many women and one they uniquely face when they balance many aspects of their lives.

 

If an aborted baby is born alive according to you it’s a person. Is it okay then to terminate that person’s life?

 

Aborted fetuses "born alive" have been born, not aborted. I don't understand your point.

And if the state they are in allows it ... fine. If it doesn't, they will deal with the law. Its a pretty simple concept.

Sure it can. Anyone can introduce anything in Congress. But Dobbs will knock it down. It knocked down Roe not because of any judgement about the rightness or wrongness of abortion, just that it wasn't a federal issue since its not mentioned in the Constitution.

 

If abortion is available in some states and not others, you have even less chance of stopping abortion.

That issue will be resolved by the people and their representatives in the democratic process in the States or Congress. As I said, there is the possibility Congress could outlaw abortion. It could also legalize it, too.

 

Jail time will convince those who break the law. If its legal... no problem... right?
