For the non-Australians we currently have sudden outbreaks and lockdowns all over the country due to the Delta variant.

I didn't want to get political with this because there has been a feeling of shared burden in Australia up until now...!

However, our hotel quarantines are failing because there aren't any alternatives, which is mostly Federal issue. The procurement and rollout of vaccines definitely was and still is in the Feds hands. I am reading that we turned down 40 million doses at Pfizer in June last year!?

I can't help feel the feet dragging and lack of proactive approach endemic to the Feds has been all about money and we are going to pay severely down the track in the longer term. Other countries will move through and have substantially vaccinated populations - while we will remain vulnerable and isolated for far longer than we should be.

Yeah! The states are doing well and locking down but we should have done what the NT did at Howard Springs - Surely there are enough abandoned mining camps around.

We have vaccination here in AUS for quite some time now, mainly Astra, which hasn't got a good reputation (right or wrong, too late for Astra I believe).
That is one of the reason many Aussies can't be bothered to get the jab. Our federal government has put the wrong eggs in the basket.
Despite that I think the borders should reopen to incoming passengers with the vaccination in place, and the lockdowns should stop at a given point in time.
    I am all for it.
At this stage there are only 2 countries in the world which prevent their citizen and residents to leave, namely North Korea and Australia, which is a shame....

I think they're going to have something similar in Victoria. Again, the Feds were dragging their feet with finding assistance but now they seem on board.

I wish I could agree, but I think it's an all-or-nothing thing. We have to have an elimination strategy at this stage. With the vaccination rates so low, if things got out of control tens of thousands could die with your plan. Also, we will go back to hard borders and division between the States.

    Na,
I don't think so, don't listen to the scare mongering. Less than 2% die of covid, mainly if you have pre existing problems. At the end of the day covid 19 is a flu, and not the pest !!!!
People have a choice, they can get the jab anywhere in our country right now and get vaccinated, or they chose not to. Once Pfizer is readily available (I believe), the vaccination rate will climb dramatically.
If people chose not to get vaccinated, they force our already useless government to continue the shutdowns and closed borders for ever....

The fact that Australia had its peak in September of last year could be a strong reason people are resisting all the scare tactics.

I don't understand this. Why would preventing residents and citizens from leaving be a concern?

I didn't phrase that question well apparently. I don't understand why LEAVING would be an issue for any country. I understand why COMING BACK would be, but not LEAVING.

Because the citizens change their minds and/or want to come back. Our hotel quarantine system can only handle a small influx. There are tens of thousands of Australians still wanting to return to Australia but cannot.

Would you accept returners fully vaccinated?

Hey, shove all the blame on Trump for not supplying you with the Pfizer vaccine. We got it thanks to Trump.

You seem....confused....yet again Robert. This is the 'Australia' board and no one has brought up Trump. Did you get...confused....again and think they were talking about Trump, or do you think all threads are about Trump? That would certainly explain a lot of your posts.

Just to help I'll explain this slowly. This thread is about Australia. The discussion that is going on is about Australia. It is about the government of Australia, not America, not Trump, Australia.

So, do you have an informed opinion about quarantine or the vaccine rollout in Australia Robert? Do you need us to help you any more?

No cats - sorry but you are very wrong there. Take it from me I have inside information - this thing is very very concerning. And it it not only the mortality you have worry about but the morbidity.

Trouble is they still have a 5 - 10% chance of being infected

And this, after a certain member repeatedly bragged about what a terrible job America was doing and Oz was the shining example....what comes around, goes around.

    Maaate!

We HAVE a done a better job at locking down - what we haven’t done is a stellar job at vaccinating people mostly because the government has been over cautious. We did not have the availability of multiple vaccines and when the AZ a vaccine showed problems they had to change to Pfizer and with a country with a lot of dispersed population that had headaches of its own. Then instead of handing anyone who could jab a syringe they put a “trying program” in place that took hours to complete. No drive by jabs and roaming vaccination teams it has been clinics only. That plus a population that did not feel any urgency we had a real issue

Gov has done a mediocre job of acquiring vaccines, selling vaccination to the public and getting them out there. We are amongst the best, however, at handling the pandemic itself - due to our ability to shoulder a burden together, (comparitive) trust in government and trust in medical authority.

And therefore passing it on. It's a real pity, but it is what it is.

    Racist? :aww:

Hey look, you're preaching to the converted here. I think a lot of your lefties are nuts, too. You seem to have more extremist groups and views than the rest of the world put together.

Kudos to your vaccination program though, including Trump's efforts. You're in a much better position now.

But he didn’t close it to those who were actually infected neither did he effectively close all the routes
