Perhaps the meaning of the word has changed, that does happen.

Capitalism too, and both really have no meaning nowadays. Neither one exists in any way even close to what they originally meant. They're both little more than rhetorical devices for politicians at this point, of historical interest only

Spot on. No civilised country would accept pure capitalism. And no civilised country could function under pure socialism.

So the real argument is how much of each should we have and here is where the States differ from Europe.

All nations are evolving to be the same, though they will probably never be identical, nor should they be.

I remain a cockeyed optimist. I think that even North Korea is trying to do right by its people and the world, though the guy in charge there is not wrapped at all tightly enough.

Because history has taught us what works. Numerous experiments have been tried through the ages, in which we vilify and punish those who don't do their bit. The Victorians come to mind. None worked, the cost of crime and disease etc always outweighs the cost of helping those few who misuse the system.

    1) Of course socialism exists. There are many collectives, all over the world.

    2) Neither are political models. They're both economic models.

I know what the WORD means, I just don't know why you used it.
