In short, this is what it says. Gen. 1:1 is original creation. "In the begining". Then something occurred which threw this creation into a chaotic state which is described in Gen. 1:2. Thus there is a time element between 1:1 and 1:2 which we do not know the length of. And of which, in Genesis, we are not told what occurred. It is only in studying other parts of the Bible that light is thrown on this time period. It is believed that during this time period that Satan rebelled and the judgement of God was upon the earth as a result. Which caused the condition of 1:2. This means that 1:1 Is orignial creation, and 1:2 is the judged conditon, and the creation week which follows is a restoration of the earth, not original creation. Of course the biggest complaint of this is that there would be such a time between verses. And if Genesis is all we had, then we could not find proof of it. But other Scripture supplies the information. Quantrill
That a time between Gen.1:1 and 1:2 exists, is denied by many due to the normal reading of the verses. Gen.1:2 begins with 'And' which indicates that it follows after 1:1. That it follows, is not denied by me. But, that doesn't mean that a considerable amount of time is not between the following. You will find that God does this several times throughout Scripture. For example: Deuterononomy 10:5. Here Moses says: "And I turned myself and came down from the mount, and put the tables in the ark which I had made; and there they be, as the LORD commanded me. Deuteronomy 10:6 And the children of Israel took their journey from Beeroth of children of Jaakan to Mosera: there Aaron died, and there he was buried;... It appears from these verses that Moses came down from the Mount, and they journed to Beeroth and Aaron died. But in comparing this with Numbers 33:38 you will see there were many years between the two. "And Aaaron the priest went up into mount Hor at the commandment of the LORD, and died there,in the fortieth year after the children of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt..." And looking at Num.33:1-37 you can see the much history and journey of Israel that is not given in Deut. 10:5-6. Yet Deut. 10:5-6 is divided by 'And' just like with Gen. 1:1 and 1:2. So, that verse 6 of Deut. follows 5 in order, yes. But that doesn't mean that everything that follows is given. It all depends on what God is wanting to reveal at the time. Quantrill
Another example of a time element not given is comparring Is.61:2 with Luke 4:19. And this is not between verses, but within a verse, even the words of a sentence. In Luke 4:18-19 Jesus is just starting His earthly public ministry. He stands up to read in the synogouge out of the book of Isaiah. He chooses Is.61:2 which speaks of the Messiah. He reads it. " The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath appointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the broken hearted, to preach delieverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. " But, Is.61:2 didn't stop at 'To preach the acceptable year of the Lord'. It said, "To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; " Why did Jesus stop in the middle of a sentence, separted only by a comma? Because His first coming was not for the purpose of proclaiming the day of vengeance of our God. That will be the Second Coming. So, inbetween 'LORD' and 'and' in Is.61:2 lies a time period of 2011 years, and still growing. We only know of it, due to other Scripture. This must always be what determines. Quantrill
sounds like a big bang...... if you like the model of time beginning at some point (in time (giggle giggle)) but you just measured it but you are trying to tell us?!?!?!? electromagnetic? em is light you can use em to see your watch. there you go trying to esplane what you could not have witnessed. (i call that lying) so are you rewriting the book of (moses per se) genesis? how is that? you didnt define what 'time' it is. (you need to know that 24 hours (approx) is how long it takes the earth to rotate and that aint in the book(s) of babble)
??? Is this not just a bit pointless? Why didn't god just make the verses understandable? If you are interested in the origin of the universe, why not just read A Brief History of Time? Its bit more readable and understandable.
