I beg to differ, Trump warned that lockdowns would be more damaging to the economy then covid, and that was true.. So when it comes to focusing on the panoramic, that also falls short..

All it's really going to take for a significant market correction to occur is for the King of Debt's tariff plan to be enacted. As for fiscal austerity, don't count on it. The bottom line here is we can't trust anything trump (or Elon) has said to be true. Except for one thing. Don really does think foreign exporters sending us goods pay the tariffs. What a dope.

There is no negotiating with the bond market when things don't work out. When he crashes the economy with tariffs and the deficit soars (economists predict he will add $9T to the national debt) bond market participants will demand a higher return to compensate for the extra risk they are taking. Meaning bond yields go higher. Meaning interest rates on things like mortgages go higher. Meaning a return to inflation.

I agree with Musk. The resistance to giving federal government a haircut will be serious. But we really need to do it. On the plus side, a member of a president's staff or the president can't cut indiscriminately without some assistance from Congress so the effort will be less severe than we need or than Musk wants.

 

Who cares what Elon wants? Why should an unelected billionaire mega donor get a say in the government budget? He should get the same say as everyone else: One vote.

Of course, we know what he wants; Protectionist tariffs so his car company doesn't have to compete with China, and lower taxes, so he can become even richer. None of this is good for the average American.
