@ zorro, i get your point, that the florida legislature did not outright ban books or call for their burning, but at any time 1 citizen, backed by right wing mega funding, can sue the librarians (pink collar civil servants without "defense funds" ) to remove books.

will florida courts, and juries, have to rule on each of the thousands of childrens books released each year?

A society of responsible people can discuss these things rationally. But once you start allowing irresponsible people to throw nonsense and garbage on the table of reason, you degrade a disucssion into an argument and diminish the pursuit of values it is intended to follow.

Banning books as we are seeing today is following values; primarily saying that a childrens library and school should not be a repository for adult materials. We put people in prison for only the possession for child-pornography for example.

While sex is natural and all people will learn about it when the time is right, the maturity needs to be in place first- and this entire area is involved in what should be only mature behavior and conduct; not taught or bandied about for children. The reasons to uphold this value are far greater than those against it.

The process of raising children requires teaching and demonstrating judgment, self-discipline, respect, and a multitude of values they will need to navigate life as adults.
Anything that usurps that obligation we all have to our children diminishes those children for life. Those kids will become the future- and the people who would expose them to things they aren't ready for are destroying that future for everyone.
