For the last 30 years I have only voted for Presidents who reduce the deficit...

Clinton received a $255 billion deficit, and left the White House with $128.2 billion surplus. Obama received a $1.41 Trillion deficit and cut it more than half to $665.4 billion. Which Trump shot up to $3.13 trillion. We don't know what it will be when Biden leaves office, but so far (2022) he has reduced it to less than half: $1.35 trillion.

Spending is not the problem. Spending CAN reduce the deficit. When it does this it's an investment. Wasteful spending is a different animal. The above data should provide some hints.

If the deficit is important to you, maybe you should take a close close look at which political party just talks and talks about reducing the deficit, and who really DOES reduce it.

I don't know why Democrats have such a hard time getting this point across. The problem with the Democratic Party is not how they do things. It's how they EXPLAIN to the people what they do.

I don't know if you expect people are going to just believe those numbers without verification but I'm certainly not going to.

Lefty math. Over spend 5 trillion your first year in office and only over spend 2.5 trillion your last year. 50% reduction in deficit.

People who don't know these numbers by heart have never been interested in the deficit. This thread is not for them. This is only for posters who think the deficit is a major issue in which they base their vote. And these posters follow the deficit almost on a daily basis.

And let us remember that there is no year since WWII, in which there was no deficit gain. And that all those presidents golem mentioned were blessed with Republican controlled congresses.

Did you even TAKE math? Overspending 5 trillion in the first year and overspending 2.5 trillion in the last year, if everything else stayed the same, would INCREASE the deficit in 7.5 Trillion in those two years alone.

Of course, that's NOT how the deficit works. But if your adding capabilities are what you show here, your ability to grasp more complex economic matters are pretty much sunk.

I'm afraid you confuse me with somebody who would care about the skepticism of posters they don't consider serious.

    Read past the headline!?!

Egad!!! Who do you think we are dealing with here, non-partisans seeking a discussion in good faith using verified data? lol

As always, budgets get blown when it’s a Republican president and reduced during a Democratic one. I didn’t know this fact was even something that was being debated but here we are with people asking for sources (that they will ignore)

Their own party leaders have said that Republicans only want to cut when it’s a democratic president.

You can thank Republican Congress' for reducing those deficits.

The Democrats lie and everyone knows they lie. That's why they can't get their point across.

Pretty sure obama voted for that initial massive deficit so he didn't just 'receive' it.

Touting Obama's deficit reduction is not being honest. He spent like crazy and then reduced his own spending....not something to brag about.

There is a reason why RED states are burning down math books. Your number will not make sense to them at all.

And G.W. Bush was sucking his thumb while democratic congress passes the budget.

I sometimes wonder, why on earth we need GOP president at all, they don’t take any responsibility whatsoever.

Well golem won't answer. Maybe you can take a crack at it?

Am I reading it wrong here or does this information completely contradict the claim and his OP about Obama's deficit?

In 2009 when Obama took office , 2009 Budget ( BUSH admin prepared it) had 1.4 trillion dollar deficit, in 2017 Budget , which Obama admin prepared had 665.7 billion deficit. So yea, by the time Obama left office he cut deficit by half.

    Now here are some facts

BUSH in 8 years added 4.9 trillion dollar to US debt

Obama in 8 years added 9.3 trillion dollar to US debt

Trump in 4 years added 7.8 trillion dollars to US debt.

PS .. i must admit Bush admin added extra money to 2009 budget because President Bush wanted to make President Obama's political life easy to address recession. President Bush could have left the budget small and let Obama deal with the problem, but President Bush ( despite how much i disagree with his policy) is a decent man who wanted to make sure that his predecessor get every chance to success and make America better. Bush admin band over backwards for Obama ‘s transition team.
