The state set up a commission that recommended $1.2 million per person. It’s clearly not going to happen because a state drowning in debt isn’t going to borrow $800 billion.

ut he’s proud of their effort

    https://www.foxnews.com/politics/ca...hecks-says-slaverys-legacy-more-cash-payments

FIRST ON FOX: California Gov. Gavin Newsomdeclined to endorse the cash payments – which could reach as high as $1.2 million for a single recipient – recommended by his reparations task force, telling Fox News Digital that dealing with the legacy of slavery "is about much more than cash payments."

"The Reparations Task Force’s independent findings and recommendations are a milestone in our bipartisan effort to advance justice and promote healing. This has been an important process, and we should continue to work as a nation to reconcile our original sin of slavery and understand how that history has shaped our country," Newsom said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

While the Democratic governor applauded the task force's work, he declined to endorse any specific recommendations, though he pledged to continue to "advance systemic changes that ensure an inclusive and equitable future for all Californians."

Looks like the reality of the math is directly colliding with the fantasy of the progressive agenda.... That's like supporting 8 or 10 ukraines

I'm going to lift part of my post, from a thread on the release of these recommendations:

Well, maybe I wasn't so out of synch with political expectations, here-- perhaps it was this Commission that was.

How about his reparations commission clip newspaper coupons worth 1.2 million in savings for each black resident.

Everytime California appears to be as crazy as can be... they get crazier. I am soooo glad I left.

Yet it's Democrats who put forth such proposals AFTER being elected by their voters

No way he actually believes this is promoting justice, or healing lol. This racism is intolerable.

California just defaulted on an $18 billion loan. There's no way they can afford to pay reperations.

Math is racist too, at least your Math is. Maybe their math makes sense to give the reparations while being broke.

    SOME "Democrats"... NOT ALL...
    Newsom's reaction was predictable...
The entire "monetary" portion of the proposal was ALWAYS DOA...
No serious person ever gave the monetary portion a chance of being enacted...

Just give it time and our resident democrats will be supporting this once CNN and MSNBC finds some spin to tell them why its a good thing.

I could not be happier for the state of California... The only unfortunate thing is, many Californians will be exiting the state at an alarming rate and infecting other states. California might have to build their own wall to keep residence in...

Has anyone on this forum sanctioned reparations in any form other than increased education and perhaps grants for small business owners?

well, the idea alone is so blatantly stupid that it’s hard to imagine going any further than sitting upright after you’ve laughed yourself sick. It’s like trying to take flat erfers seriously.

If skin color determines who gets what, it falls under the definition of systemic racism. "We oppose treating people different because of the color of their skin, so we are going to treat people different because if the color of their skin.

This is nothing more than blatant vote buying with imaginary money. They are exploiting the basic psychology behind why people buy lottery tickets.

    Uh, what?

I'm suggesting that communities that are severely underserved be given educational opportunities they currently don't have. That's racist, in your mind?

There are plenty of underserved communities that aren't mostly black. West Virginia is 95% white, and have some of the least educated people in the country.

So what would you call a program to provide assistance to white people only?

Today I was getting my brakes repaired and I had a long friendly chat with the manager who had a strong LatinX accent. He said he heard about California and will never go there. Instead he’s planning to use his time share in NYC.

Maybe Newsom realized that blacks only make up 6% of CAs population but 28% of the prison population so it just wasn’t going to buy him a lot of votes when he has illegals safely tucked in his back pocket when he sends them ballots in the mail.

While we have some very liberal members on this board, I don’t think any of them are insane.
