Liberal here……I dont support giving any of tax dollars from anyone who was not alive while slavery was legal, TO anyone who was not alive while slavery was legal

But as long as were at it, although most slaves were black, whites were slaves to. So I want my “reparations too”…….so when you read that last sentence and think, “well no, why would we pay whites for something they werent part of?”, replace the word white with the word black

Yes. There have been many reparation threads going back years and there has been support for straight up cash payments.

I've been promised a free lunch by one poster when she gets her check.

    1. These reparations are for more than slavery, like red lining
    2. What whites were enslaved in America?
    3. we always pay for stuff that happened before we were born. Always.

Saw today that this plan could result in payouts of more than twice the States budget expenditure.

But also remember that redlining cought poor whites also. Redlining may have been about race for some, but it did catch many poor white families also.

It's just posturing and virtue signaling to be sure.

Nigerians living in California would have had their country decimated over the course of several centuries by the Atlantic slave trade. I wonder if they will get anything, or is the fact that they work and aren't professional victims a disqualification?

I have to find this a bit funny. The political movements. He wanted to set up this commission to make recommendations, only to not follow them. Good way to just kick the can down the road I guess. He must have known that the recommendations would be aggressive and wouldn't be realistic. I wonder if Democrats are angry with him, or if he's sensing that SF is too far left and he needs to move to the center.

US outlawed trans-Atlantic slave trade in 1806.

Can you tell me what "redlining" means in this context. I never heard the term before except as it applied to editing a document. Please... can you explain it to me?

It was used to determine if a home loan was deemed worthy. Redlining areas gave an easy way to tell the bankers where to loan money. I’m sure there’s a bunch of history, but that’s my memory. Red areas were poor/mostly black.

The manner in which something is paid for, matters. Targeting white people to pay black people for things they didn’t do to them, and they didn’t experience is racist.

Especially considering redlining affected white people too. And most people who died to free the slaves were white as well.

The racism of reparations is astounding.

This. Yet no one is calling for reperations for the poor white this affected.

The racism The left supports is not as obvious to most people. But it’s far more prevalent. Which is why they get away with it.

It is drawing lines around certain neighborhoods and charging those in those neighborhoods higher interest rates for loans, or actually denying loans because of where they are

    So there is that ;)

So your claim is the left practices racism that you cant see ?

Shouldn't the question be asked, are the homes in that area more likely to default, therefore riskier, therefore pay higher interest rates? Common sense has left us.

So you raise the rate on the home, not the borrower ? Who’s buying the home, the home itself ?

BTW, Redliing is illegal and has been since the late 60’s.

Redlining? Lol. There were other races that were impacted by red lining. It was JUST black people.

    So his point still stands.

It started in the 1930s, so, not a ton of data back then, amiright? So, was it a predictor or an origin story of the situation we are in today?
