Although in all seriousness..... A northern colony somewhere for a prison sounds like a fine idea.

Could be the new federal penitentiary.

You know it is absolutely amazing that Washington DC is not considered a state even though it is the seat of our very government.

I know it's called the district of Columbia but if it's not a state technically what is it?

And furthermore I wonder why it was named Columbia? I would assume something to do with Columbus's discovery of the nation

Colombia, or Columbina are feminine versions of Columbus, and what the US was initially called (at least by some people). But "America" stuck. It is named after Amerigo Vespucci, the Italian dude who first discovered the US.

As for Greenland, Trump says he wants it so he can defend the free world from there, which is odd after all the complaints about the expense of being in NATO.

I agree, no honorable nation takes another into it's realm by force, because that is criminal by nature. I'm sure Trump knows this, and I'm not sure one way or another what the motivation or plan is.
IF Canada and the USA both wanted to unite, that is a different situation. Same thing with Greenland.

I don't think we will see any actions of this nature, and I don't think the people would approve of it or allow it.

Nothing will come of it; we agree. It’s hard to take anything Trump says seriously. He just opens his mouth and every random thought that pops into his head comes out verbally, using 15 of the 40 words he knows.

Very interesting, I have heard the name of Amerigo Vespucci but I was not familiar with the backstory.

There's so many different claims about who first discovered America from the Vikings to the Moors and everyone in between. Who knows who the original discoverer truly was?

Of course the indigenous people who were already living here at the time, could rightly be considered the original discoverers.

We tried takeing Canada by force in 1812 but lost. We have tried several times since the days we purchased by treaty from Russia the territory of Alaska with offers of Greenland. Each and every time Denmark has refused. Denmark recently changed its Royal Coat of Arms to include the Ram, which is a symbol of Greenland, in a not-so-subtle message to Trump that Greenland is not for sale. Trump is wanting something and thinking this is the way to get it. It is not. Again, another right idea wrong approach by the Trump Administration.

People are so short sighted. The green Weenies should appreciate Greenland as a nice place to live after some of the snow melts due to global warming.
As we keep immigrating the world into our borderless country, we need more land.
Also owning Greenland means Russia and China won't.

Oh come on now and give the man some credit, his vocabulary is very bigly. Lol

I have a very curious nature myself and this causes me to wonder exactly what is the average person's vocabulary? I'm a big fan of learning new words

Unfortunate you could not leave the agreement alone and chose to turn the question into extended insults.
Trump's a smart man, with a very creative and exploring mind. That means a lot of things get examined that aren't practical, in the process of looking at all of what's possible.
Yes, he would have been better off not mentioning it, and he does have far greater priorities. But unlike the previous administration, Trump will actually make good things happen.
We are only 12 days away from Day 1.

A neighbor of mine has many hot-rods, but one in particular has a sign on the dash on the passengers side. It reads-
"Get in, buckle up, shut up and hang on". Good advice given the car and driver. Might be a good sign for the white house door to, because there's a good chance things are going to happen fast and furious.
    Long overdue.

We are basically the same size as China but with a fraction of the population as a whole. We have 350 million US citizens and residents living here, including illegal aliens. But what we do is build out, not up, which is where the problem lies. If we build up, then we can still have plenty of room left to spare.

Greenland is not exactly a hospital place. But if the ice melts, that means the ocean waters rise. If the ocean waters rise, the population living in the coastal areas would be flooded and cities like Dallas Texas would be the new Ocean Front property.

Very true. Vikings were here, but we are not named after Ragnar, or Harald and I suppose it's because they didn't colonize the US. They DID colonize Greenland, which was GREEN at the time, hence the name Greenland. The Southern tip is more or less half way between Norway and Canada. It's not green anymore, and even the Vikes gave up on living there due to overly harsh conditions.
