Some background, we know that guns are a real problem being snuck through the southern borders to be used by drug cartels in their work of using those guns to maintain power.

Maybe the gun manufacturers should make smart guns that only fire if they're inside the borders of the USA? They should use geo-fencing to make sure a functioning gun only works here in the USA. Just like the stores in town, near me, have a lock on shopping carts to keep people from stealing them by locking them up if someone tries to move them out of the store/parking lot area.

It works on shopping carts because shopping carts arent worth the effort it takes to disable the locking mechanism. Its not that its particularly difficult, its just that there's very little reward in doing so. Firearms are very simple machines, relatively speaking. Disabling an electronic lock on a firearm would simply be a matter of filing down a catch or removing a spring. And since firearms are designed to be easily disasembled since they require frequent maintenance (cleaning and lubrication), there is no way to prevent the electronic lock from being accessed and disabled. 'Smart guns' are useful in preventing someone from taking a weapon from its owner and immediately being able to use it. They will not prevent someone from using a weapon that they have access to for a longer period of time than that.

Yeah, that's a horrible idea. That would open up a ton of government interference. Not to mention, it would make guns too expensive.

If the cartels couldn't get guns from the US they'd get them from somewhere else. Why are people so naive?

Most of their guns come from other sources. The claim that the cartels get most of their guns from the states is another anti-gunner lie.

Okay so why can't all parties agree not to use guns at all and stick to just knives and daggers? Why does any country need nuclear weapons?

Yeah, let's have a party with conical hats, whistles, and some nice chocolate fudge. Then we'll invite all the gangbangers, rapists, thieves and murderers in for a some cold lemonade and have them all swear to give up their guns and never use one in the future. For entertainment the whole group can join in a sing along ... perhaps "Koom-by-ya" or "We are the World would be nice.

Actually there is a fair argument that incorporating geofencing into firearms could make them more desireable for some people to own. It is just a matter of hitting the right demographic. Maybe someone who wants to have a firearm at home for protection at night but is afraid their kid could take it to school and shoot someone would be interested in such a pairing.

Considering that the internet is a public forum seen by people across the world, I'm going with the response that I will neither confirm nor deny my gun ownership status.

No reasonable gun owner would tolerate electronic interference in the operation of their firearm. Those that know very little about firearms have big ideas on what should be imposed on law abiding citizens, but can't figure out how to control criminals. Burdening lawful gun owners with a loading screen when seconds count, only benefits criminals, killers, and rapists.

Sometimes two parties abut an existing fenceline and don’t get along concerning what’s fenced in. One party can wake up in the morning to find the fence has been moved!

They already do get them somewhere else. Probably the same place they get their grenades. Those do not come from the US.
