Half of the People on this political forum are below average... Yes limited for people on this forum. Half of them may not be below average when all of humanity is what is the universe.
I don't see that anywhere in your posts. Consider that if Einstein and Stephen Hawking were the population, HALF would be below average. Tell me how that is informative in ANY way.
In my first post, I wrote the minimum population has to be at least 30 samples for the central limit theorem to be applicable. The central limit theorem is not applicable with a sample size of 2. If you had a sample size of 30 theoretical physicists though, containing both Einstein and Stephen Hawking, along with 28 other theoretical physicists, you could say half of the theoretical physicists in your sample are below average compared to the other half of theoretical physicist in your sample.
The people here are self-selected. That theorem only applies if it's a random selection of people from an entire group. I would think that people intelligent enough to discuss political ideas, at least with some exceptions like those who are here because someone is paying them to be here, would tend more towards the right end of the spectrum on at least intelligence. We are probably older as well. Although there are some here whose intelligence I seriously question, especially those who bring up the same things over and over again, even after it's been explained to them why they are factually incorrect. Differing opinions is one thing, but if you see something factual and cannot or will not accept it, you have a screw loose somewhere.
If you want to find the point where half are on each side, you calculate the median, not the mean. If you want to find the average of the measurements taken, you use the mean. I would suggest that simply finding either of those concerning posters means very little. It doesn't show how the population is spread (is it bell shaped, is it broadly spread, is it one sided, etc.). It doesn't show how the population compares to any other population. It doesn't say anything about whether the metric is meaningful. It doesn't help out with the central limit theorem, as that involves what might happen if the sample size increases.
That may be if you only took a sample of 30, however; the population in this case is everyone who posts on this forum.
