Please tell me that this is false. If true, I want to see everyone boycott those vehicles. But if we do, thousands of jobs will be lost. Your right Fatback, China is eating our lunch. Did it in just 24 years.

I hope it's not true but new jeeps are definitely garbage with major engine problems well before 200,000 miles

From what I've seen so far there has been a lot of interest in the last few years but it hasn't happened.......yet.
Personally I think there is a collaboration going on and that's what is fueling these rumors.
I would not like it, but it is their company to do with what they wish.
Did you know Smithfield packing, the people who put a large percentage of pork products in the stores, are Chinese owned?
These are some of the reasons why American can't afford to be isolationist. Global markets and business are here to stay. Avoiding them is impossible and counter productive. It's one of the few things I agreed with Trump on. We are better off making better deals than isolating ourselves. We just need a better negotiator.

Don't want to be isolating ourselves. But we need to do a lot better making trade rules. America has come out at the bottom of almost all our trades. China is buying up America and soon will be, if not already the biggest economy in the world. Remember when Obama cancelled a trade of GE appliances to Sweden's Electrolux? They wound up selling it to China. It was the largest American buyout at that time.China's intentions for America are not good and we are handing the country over to them.

It is a slippery slope though!
Nations like China are becoming more capitalistic, but can American become more like China, where the government controls the businesses?
My theory is that EVENTUALLY the whole world will be under one governing body. Loooooooong time from now though. Maybe my great great great grandchildren will see it!

If we look at many of the nations we have had trades with, before and after our trade agreements you will see they were mostly second rate economies that turned out to have some of the best economies in the world, while ours kept slipping. Countries like Mexico, China, Japan and S. Korea for instance.

I see reports like this dating back to 2017. I'd wait for official confirmation from the companies themselves.

On what basis? By what economic metric? In fact, what country is actually doing better than us economically right now? There may be two or three, but none come to mind.

My reaction is Chrysler was a muti-national company so my reaction is so what? know this thread is not the place, but a discussion of what brand of car/truck to buy or not buy with respect to value would be interesting.

It would. I'll probably be in the market for a small truck soon. I actually kind of miss my old Ranger.

That makes zero sense, China puts major tariffs on US goods, China doesn't allow certain stuff to be sold and has extreme control on the things that are, nothing capitalistic about China. Why in the world the left wants to align with China is beyond me.

Agreed. Which is why I viciously oppose Trump's tariffs. Trump is the one who wants to align with China. Not the left.

I just did a search for China buying Jeep and Ram, all that came up is China buying Biden, Harris and Walz.

Ah, that kind of garbage? Well, at least it sounds like there is nothing to it, then.

China has its own manufacturers, one of which Warren Buffet has a decent stake in. My hunch is that if they were to buy Jeep, the reason would be to have leverage around any trade sanctions.

Well I have a 2007 Chrysler Town and country with over 300,000 MI that is still going strong. But I haven't driven it in about a month because it needs a starter and I bought a used Chevy Express 2500 cargo van with 140,000 mi on it.

So I'd say that's not bad for a minivan.

One of the mechanics here at work, his girlfriend had to buy one of these new jeeps and he had to do the valves or the lifters or something like that and the timing chain and this thing had well less than 100,000 miles on it. So he fixed it at least good enough to sell it and then they turned right back around and bought another new Jeep

    * Major facepalm.... But she just has to have a Jeep.

Back in the day they were really good vehicles.
I started to buy a 2007 Jeep wagoneer and I'm glad I didn't because one of the mechanics from work ended up buying it instead and he has had nothing but problems out of it

Toyota is better (and more made in USA) anyway.

My tundra just passed 300K miles this week, pulling a car-hauler 4 hours, through two mountain passes, to Portland and back. Runs great, havn't had any engine work done to it ever.

My friend had a old Toyota 4Runner with well over 300,000 on it but unfortunately it was lost to the flood from hurricane Ian a couple of years ago.

He's in an area called River acres and a lot of times people would say oh it's just a little road flooding.... Well it turns out a hurricane came up by the time they assumed it would only be a bit of road flooding it was too late to get out.

I looked at some old 4Runners to buy myself but those still command to premium on the used market.

I don't think I will ever buy a brand new vehicle. First off you need a hefty down payment and then you're going to owe as much as rent for about the next 7 years and have to keep full coverage on it the entire time.

I do the bare minimum pip insurance required by Florida. And that's expensive enough
