When I was in my 30s my car was stolen, and recovered about a month later. The cops forgot to take it off their hot sheet, and I was treated to a full felony stop. "Driver! Throw your keys out the window! Driver! Exit the vehicle! Driver! Walk backwards towards the sound of my voice! DID I TELL YOU TO PUT YOUR HANDS DOWN, MUTHERFUCKER?! FACE DOWN ON THE PAVEMENT!! NOW!!" Good times.
Yes but not in an aggressive way like that. Sometimes wet behind the ears hunters aren't as mindful of which way their gun is positioned as they should be.
Have You Ever Had a Gun Pointed At You? I've had artillery pointed at me. And I was shot once in the leg by a crazed customer in a Paris bar. Yours doesn't sound so bad.
Good. The cops that put you through it were doing their job. The people who maintain records are the ones who were not.
Pointed at me? No. But I did have someone who pulled out there gun to threaten me. I was on a feeder road, started to change lanes, realized I needed to stay in the lane I was in, so I stayed in the lane and stopped for the red light ahead. The truck behind me was apparently planning on blowing past the red light, slammed on his breaks, and started to lay on his horn. I ignored him. Light turned green, he swerved around me, and I let it go. Then we were both on the onramp for the interstate and he slammed on his brakes in the middle of the onramp, with no one in front of him. He eventually sped back up and we were both on the highway. He kept brake checking me in the middle of the highway. Then he got beside me and I kept ignoring him while he kept swerving toward me. I finally looked over and he was holding a pistol against his chest trying to stare me down. I eventually turned to him and pointed at him and then at the upcoming exit, since he seemed eager for a fight. That seemed to make him happy. He got back in front of me and exited. I started to follow, but got back on the interstate at the last second (don't worry, no one was behind me). It was kind of worth it to see his reaction. Dude was way bigger than me and was brandishing a gun. Sure, I had a gun in the car as well, but no way in hell I'd want to actually fight him and I'm not going to pull out a gun over a stupid road rage incident. Dude was clearly unhinged. While I enjoyed the look on his face, I just pray he didn't go home and beat his wife and kids after that. Seemed like the type. Worse, he could have been an off-duty cop, and the odds would be stacked against me if there was an altercation and it ended up in court.
I hadn't thought about it that way. So, in that case, yes. I have had a gun pointed at me. Not hunting, but bad range etiquette.
If they were doing their job, his car would have been taken off the hot sheet. They lucky he didn't have extreme anxiety or ptsd. They would be facing a serious lawsuit.
A similar incident happened to me, wasn't for a stolen car. Was just a casual stop, but for what ever reason I hold onto the bottom of my seat with my right hand when I come to a stop. Cop thought I was reaching for something...had he thought it was a felony stop, I may not be here.
A traffic stop with a vigilant, even aggressive cop ≠ combat ≠ PTSD. Anyone prone to be traumatized by the experience is already in need of professional help.
Universal healthcare would make it possible to get that help for more people imo. That stuff isn't cheap, but it will save lives. Anxiety and PTSD makes innocent people unpredictable or dangerous when threatened.
I’ve been shot at several times in Iraq. The closest I got to being hit was when a snipers bullet hit the humvee I was standing next to when we had set up an outer cordon for a raid, hitting about two feet from my head. Ah, memories, lol.
Not from up close. But when I worked security at a national park, one time the president (or the presidents family) came to visit. The SS took over one of the hotels. But we were still responsible for monitoring the fire alarm and suppression system for the hotel, which we checked twice per shift. We were told to behave like snipers had us in their sites while we were doing so, because they probably did. I never saw em, but its likely they saw me.
Had a "disagreement" with a guy who came at me with a shotgun. My reaction was to grab the barrel and try to take it away. Didn't work. He shoved the barrel into my ribs, hit me over the top of my head and fired several shots over my shoulder and above my head.
No and I do not know of anyone here who has. Our police are not allowed to pull their guns for a traffic stop
Yes when I was in high school. I was having a sort of dramatic end (3rd and final ending) with my first love, and her parents thought I was suicidal. At the time I carried a knife and they mentioned that when they called the police. I was at their house, quietly sitting there with her mom basically making sure I'm okay. Then 3 cops side stepped in with their guns trained on me, saw the guns before them. Cuffed and took me to be checked out at the ER, but the doctor there said I was okay, but did prescribe some antidepressants I never took. I think her mom was hypersensitive about this kind of thing because she had a high school boyfriend who killed himself in front of her, traumatized her. I don't really recall being mad though. Just embarrassed about the whole thing and glad nothing came of it. The police reaction seemed a bit much since I don't think the parents said I was threatening anybody, only that they thought I was suicidal and had a knife, but oh well.
You know that feeling of relief you get after a crash when you realise you're unhurt? Doesn't happen when you're in Northern Ireland and what you've crashed into is an Army roadblock.
He wasn't trying to shoot me. He just didn't want to have a conversation with me and I wouldn't leave. What I didn't realize at the time was that there were other people who had followed me because they thought there was going to be a fight. He thought they were going to gang up on him.
Nope. I had a guy try to shank me with a switchblade. I broke his collarbone with a pool cue, and kicked his knife down a storm sewer.
Would you have done the same thing if he had a gun? With the pool cue you have a huge advantage with reach. In general do you teach your students to try to resist and disarm someone with a gun?
