It makes sense. How could you go back to a normal life after all that?

This article does a great job at smearing homeless veterans. Why not say 75% of homeless veterans got a Honorable Discharge?

if they choose to live like that, they are free to

if they want help we should help them.... i suggest a war tax anytime we are at war to help returning soldiers and their families

If you are kicked out of service for using drugs then your problem is your drug use not the discharge.

    Agreed.

Many enter the armed forces because of lack of opportunity in their hometowns. Those opportunities are still lacking when they get out, plus many have unreported/undiagnosed PTSD and are even less capable of coping with the situation than before they were shipped off in the first place.

The VA does what it can, but is largely representative of the affluence of the area its located. IOW, in struggling towns its a flophouse and in wealthy retirement areas its a luxury resort.

This is not to mention the severe culture shock of coming back. People stateside react to non-lethal situations as if they were. No ones going to die if the burger you ordered is med well instead of med rare, your family isn't going to be fire bombed if traffic makes you late for work, but you'd think so from the way civilians behave.

I think everyone knows 'that guy', the one that re-deploys over and over again way past the point where they have to. Most of thats because of a real love of their fellow servicemen and a need to feel they make an important contribution somewhere, but some of its because of the truly ugly nature of so many people in the states.
