I've been married to the same woman for many, many years and the relationship between the two homosexual women living on my street has no impact whatsover on my marriage, my family, or my relationships. As a Christian, I believe marriage to be a sacrament - but it's not my place to impose my views on others.

I'm from the Canadian school of thought when it comes to the relationships other adults choose to engage in - "The state has no place in the bedrooms of the nation" - 1968, Pierre E. Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada.

If, for instance, my Minister announced that he would be holding homosexual marriages, then I may have something to say about it. But that's a purely sectarian affair. As one of your conservative columnists Charley Reese pointed out, "f the state recognizes a contract, which is all marriage amounts to, in secular terms it by no means sanctifies anything. No one accuses the state of sanctifying sales contracts."

The state is not a moral presence. The state enforces contracts, period. Churches should be the ones that determine the rules of marriage for its members. It remains a mystery to me why some people get all excited about homosexuals and lesbians getting married. If you are against homosexual marriage, then don't marry a person of the same sex as you.

    Very good post.

However, there are too many people who believe that the government is here to protect their values. They view marriage as being a religious institution (which is false), predominately a Christian institution (which is false), and the US was founded on Christian values (which is again, false), therefore the government must use the barrel of a gun to enforce a particular moral code.

They belligerently ignore the fact that marriage is a moral contract. Separate from whatever god any particular person may believe in. Ignoring the fact that if same sex couples are marrried it creates no impact what so ever to speak of on their lives.

Those who say it does...... I feel for them. I can't imagine committing myself to one particular person, and allowing that the relationship between the two of us to influenced or defined on whether or not homosexuals are allowed to marry. Its rather pathetic that some people allow that to happen.

as bassardized as the term marriage is, then it is normal to seee a male bride or a female groom.

but the act of the commitment of marriage is for lineage protection. ie... if a copulation occurs, the child is thought to be given the assets of the male who copulates with the women of marriage.

but now, taxation is an issue as well medical legalities and a whole host of legal crap that has twisted the minds of people.

i mean, the act of same sex copulation in itself is kind of weird as there is no gene or requirement of sex for any real kind of love.

it is that people like the 'feeling' of an "O" versus the natural purpose of 'sex' (procreation)

monkeys doinking same sex monkeys is not based on love, it is a dominance issue

same with the dolphins raping other species in frustration

I liken the act almost like pedophilia; a selfish desire

but it aint love as that is not what sex is about as sad as it may seem for me to even make the statement of such a fact, when i personally love to have sex.

church has no business in such matters as well the tax benefit should not be given to same sex 'couples' unless a child (another mouth to feed) is in order.

I find it best to take the tax credit away from the non-producing couples of any gender, then to suggest same sex couples should get tax advantages.

    my opinion!

I don't think people should be financially encouraged to have children anyway.

    Wolverine,

In the time I have been posting on this Board yours is the most mature and thoughtful post I have read. Unfortunately most of the people who post here are doing so in an attempt to force their specific value structure on those of us who disagree with them on abortion, gay marriage, taxation, war, etc.

I have always found that people with Conservative leanings seem to believe that their way is the right way and to disagree with them means you are either anti-American, a communist or socialist, or worst of all a liberal.

Liberalism in Canada is defined quite differently from how Americans define as liberalism. We Canadian liberals take from the "right", we take from the "left", we take from "socialism, communism", and any other "ism" out there in order to provide the best value for all Canadians.

Once again Wolverine thank you for your thoughts as they are most enlightening.

    Regards,
    Yukon

Marriage has a strong religous meaning, it's not true, but many people feel it's true, so it crosses a line when you're asking god to do something that your religion says doesn't go, many people would be appealed by it.

But civil unions are a government sanctioned marriage. Those should have homosexual marriage.

i am of mankind, and the social benefit to mankind could be to just shoot liars and feed the crops.

does that make me a liberal nut with 2 wings or a responsible person who does not believe that misleading people is OK for the children/the future?

ie... all for one and one for all

No one is asking god to do anything, no one is asking a church to do anything.

Marriage should be offered to all or none at all. Separate but equal has already been ruled to be inherently unequal.

It doesnt take long for the right-wing zealots to reduce an adult debate into right-wing, inflamatory trash. Congratulations Bishadi you havent let me down - you 'people' will never change.

Numerous states of the US have finally recognized the discriminatory marriage laws in effect and have changed them to permit same sex (homosexual) marriage. It amazes me though that Conservatives, many of whom claim to have finally accepted the Negro people as being equal, still refuse to believe in equality for homosexual people. Is this simply another conservative paradox?

Those who disagree with equal rights for homosexuals should move to a theocratic state like Iran, Iraq, or Saudi where religious fanatics dictate the laws of the land. Im sure Conservative zealots would do just fine in such countries, you know, sorta blend right in.

Or we can make do with the status quo and not go to one extreme or the other. Just because we oppose the redefinition of marriage doesn't mean we want to hang gay people in the streets. Your shrill hyperbole discredits you and makes you look like a nut.

Marriage isn't about enforcing contracts -- it's about two people signing a contract with the government. I say, get rid of this ridiculous government endorsed marriage red herring, and allow private contracts to roam. The government shouldn't be preventing two people of the same gender to enter into a contract with some financial agreements, nor two people of different genders, nor three people all in one contract, or two siblings marrying each other. What the consensual adults do behind in the bedroom is irrelevant to the contract and is no business of the government.

Its not a redefinition of marriage. You make you own definition. Its is about granting equal legal treatment to homosexuals, ie, all of the legal benefits that come with marriage.

Marriage is primarily the State (or in some cases, the church) approved joining of man and woman for the purpose of providing the woman some protection/survival benefit for being the wife and mother of children. The great majority of people approve of male-female marriage and the legal forcing of the husband to provide for the family, even if he leaves or divorces.

Homosexual joining (sodomy) is not something I approve of, but neither am I insisting on it being a capital crime as it has been in many places and times. However, for anyone to demand that they receive my approval for it , via the State Legislature, is ridiculous. If homosexuals want to make a contract, let them, just don't demand my approval of it.

The reason I HATE the gay movement is because they aligned themselves with the statists instead of the libertarians. They seek to impose their will on everyone else by force of law. When laws don't go their way, they seek to overturn them in the courts. Everything is about force. Because they have gone hard left, they have become despicable.

Your argument, while I don't fully agree with it, has merit. It's just too bad that the gay movement went the other way.

They are not imposing their will on anyone, they are simply seeking equal treatment.
