OK, we have male, female, and both. That sounds like 3 to me. Let me break it down.
    1 - male
    2 - female
    3 - both
How many numbers are there between 0 and 1. 2 options but infinite amount of numbers.
But that is sex organs. Not the topic of the thread. Asking how many genders there are.

Is there some particular reason you are choosing to be so obtuse. Both is not a third gender.

Only if you think there are "plenty" of sexes. I count only two.

Of course that isn't the topic of the thread if you actually mean sex organs.
And 0 and 1 are only 2 numbers, but there's an infinite amount of numbers between them. But alas, now I'm OT as well.

Of course it's a 3rd gender. Read the definition of gender.
Are you choosing to be obtuse? Gender and sex organs aren't all inclusive.
Gender is more than just sex organs.
I showed that with the definition of gender. So, I'm not the one being obtuse, or going OT.

You keep harping on the definition which ties gender directly to sex, i.e.

2a : sex the feminine genderb : the behavioral, cultural, or psychological traits typically associated with one sex
    (emphasis mine)

So, as there are two sexes, there are two genders. QED

That is but one of the definitions. You need to include the entirety of definitions.
And even at that, there are not just 2 sexes. 2 options to chose from but there are those that fall in between the 2 options.
    Hermaphrodites are obvious.

    NOUN
    • 1Either of the two sexes (male and female), especially when considered with reference to social and cultural differences rather than biological ones. The term is also used more broadly to denote a range of identities that do not correspond to established ideas of male and female.

‘a condition that affects people of both genders’

      ‘someone of the opposite gender’
‘everyone always asks which gender I identify as’
      1. 1.1 Members of a particular gender considered as a group.
        ‘social interaction between the genders’

‘encouraging women and girls to join fields traditionally dominated by the male gender’
        https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/gender
    • you see, it's not a simple definition.

I don't think the grammatical definition is what we are discussing. Grammatically we identify three genders: masculine, feminine and neuter. English grammar doesn't have genders, fwiw.

Yes, there are only two sexes. Hermaphrodites have characteristics of both. Given there extreme rarity, I feel comfortable excluding them from the discussion. I have to say, your argument sounds like sophistry to me.

    What is the point?

I think I made my point. Without any form of deception.
We have defined 2 sexes, male and female. We've defined them as what sex organs they were born with.
We have at least 1 other physical trait, that being one with both sex organs.

But gender isn't just about physical traits. Most if not every definition will state that.

Why would you exclude hermaphrodites? They exist, no matter how small a % they are.

So- being obviously interested in the dairy business, is their any confusion among your herd as to who is what gender?
I assure you- I know what transgender is. Yes, at that point he would be a cross-dresser, and may well be considering crossing over in other ways.
The world- and people- are only stable when we keep certain benchmarks is sight, and one of those is sexual gender. Every time we throw out something clinically and scientifically solid and substitute a rubber-band definition that people bend to suit themselves- society loses more touch with reality and becomes further confused.

If you don't know who you are, what you want or stand for- life is going to get pretty crappy. It's identity. Not a good thing to lose touch with.

No, gender is about things linked to physical traits. We state a behavior is masculine if it is associated with men.

    I mean, duh!

Yep, if you got a penis, you got yourself a male. If you got yourself a vagina, yep, you got yourself a female. Every so often a genetic flaw will produce a person with both sex organs in some form. But it is an aberration, not normal.

If you got yourself a penis, but think you are a vagina, you got a mental illness and a sane society would suggest one sees a shrink to get the mind fixed.

So this is rubbish to think biology does not determine gender. There was a man once who thought he was dog. He would even act like a dog. No difference between this and this gender confusion problem caused by some kind of mental illness. Yes, these people are psychologically sick, abnormal, and no one should help them in their delusion, no one should enable it. No more than you should call Bill, Fido and let him use your leg as a fire plug. Gotta draw lines, for these lines mean something important.

I am not in the business, but I do know there are bulls that have sex with other bulls, rare, but it occurs. I doubt an animal is concerned with gender identity.

The world never has been and never will be stable. The only constant in the world is change.
Words and definitions change over the course of time.
We learn new things as a species all the time and change our thinking based on what we learn.
According to what I've read/heard, those that are trans, maybe aren't sure in some cases, and are sure in most cases, and their sex organs are out of sync with what their mind says they are. That is the extent of my expertise.
For them, it's pretty crappy living a life they don't feel they are sexually.

Come on, there are plenty of women with masculine behavior. Some will be gay, most won't. Some will claim they actually identify as a male.
And of the flip side, there are men who behave in a feminine manner.
There is no hard cut line between 100% male and 100% female.
There are various levels of masculinity and femininity as well.

    Nothing masculine about these men.

my opinion is that even if a woman has masculine traits, she is still a woman, and if a man has feminine traits , it doesn't make him a woman. It 's about body parts. Feelings are psychological and that's what psychiatrists are for. Can women impregnate men? Can men have babies?

No doubt there is plenty masculine about those men. You are just being fooled by a superficial disguise. One might as well claim that the actor playing Chewbaca isn't human because he is wearing a Wookie suit.

Earlier, if you were mentally ill - you belonged in an asylum. Now, if you are mentally ill, you belong to the political pedestal. That's why, sadly, we are having such conversations.

Anyone ever driving a car knows full well there are only two genders. One knows how to drive, the other....doesn't.

If you are a progressive, there are as many genders as you want. It's your right to be confused.

Can all men impregnate women? Can all women have babies? NO.
The world has 7B people, and 7B possible differences between full male and full female. If we use your definition of full male as one who can impregnate and full female as one who can be impregnated.
