TLDR - Trump's erratic policies prevent anyone from wanting to invest in or even visit the U.S. Trump can't seem to decide whether he wants to place tariffs on certain countries or not. The tariffs appear for 48 hours and then disappear. At any point Trump could make a decision which could cripple any investment made in the U.S. Investors don't like uncertainty. So, if I as a farmer, decide to invest in growing limes expecting a massive tariff on Mexican limes, when Trump flip-flops again, I've just lost my investment. So, don't expect anyone to make new investments in the U.S. in the coming year. Tourism is going to go down this year as Trump is being even erratic about how he enforces visa's.
He definitely creates uncertainty. It almost feels like he is trying to crash the economy intentionally. He could have made one big a announcement about tariffs but instead he is like a yoyo. Folks watching it are getting whiplash. Holding Jerry Springer like press events doesn't help either. He could have distanced the US from Ukraine without making a show of bullying Zelinski. There was no need to declare Canada should be the 51st state or that he will have Greenland "one way or another" and not rule out military force, etc. He appears to be doing these things for the attention more than for advancing his agenda.
International tourists are already taking the hint, the US can't be trusted anymore: https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2025/03/16/international-tourism-travel-trump-canada/ Winning.....
Trump is only positioning the USA to have equal, or no tariffs, to match what other countries charge us. That is why he starts off with a high tariff to get attention. I'm surprised that people haven't yet figured out Trump. It may take a year before all the dust settles -- but when it does, and the new major investors are almost up and running, you will see a strong growing economy. Hang on and enjoy the up and down ride.
False. The US imposes higher tariffs than Canada and Europe. https://www.pewresearch.org/short-r...west-in-the-world-and-in-the-nations-history/ Because he's wrong. He's going to push the US into a recession.
That's possible. But that may be the bitter pill we have to take to balance the budget and start paying down the national debt of $36 Trillion, which keeps going up and up, which can bankrupt the country. So, what do you suggest we do?
You should stand like a man: Either America is the richest and strongest country on earth ever or it is the country that is so week and has been treated soooo badly.
I'm not sure where to start. First, the country owes about 35% of its debt to Trump. He was an ultra-spending POTUS in his first term, and it's an illusion to believe that he's suddenly going to run the government differently from the way he runs his business.... which is extremely indebted. Secondly, it's impossible to balance the budget when there's a recession, since government revenues are melting away. An economic slowdown of just -1% would create an incredible hole in the budget. Third, Trump is an idiot who understands nothing about economics.
I can't be the only one that hears Rubio or Trump say they want tariffs on this and that, to get other countries to do things or to build up local industry... and then turn the other way and say they only want reciprocal tariffs. They are constantly contradicting themselves, no? Its all "We want tariffs on Steel and Aluminum to build up our local industry because these are vital to security, etc" and then its all "They have tariffs on us, building up their local industries, and we just want reciprocal". It sounds like a spiral. Most of the tariffs from Canada ARE reciprocal to Trump's own.
Better bone up on current events. The opposite is true. His policies have attracted billions in new business investment from abroad. Keep sowing misinformation if it pleases you but accept that you are being called out for it.
He literally backed out of free trade negotiations with Europe in 2017, and signed our current trade agreement with Canada in 2019. If he is trying to position us for equal tariffs, he’s doing a terrible job at it. If he wants lower tariffs with Europe, then he should have never backed out of those negotiations with them. If he wants lower tariffs with Canada than what we currently have, then he should have never made our current trade agreement with them. When are we going to see these great trade deals he speaks of? When he signed our current agreement with Canada he said it was the “best agreement we ever made”. Now he says its a bad deal, and literally asked “who would ever sign a thing like this?”
Just to be clear, Trump doesn't have a clue how to use tariffs. He thinks of them as a hammer and to him, everything looks like a nail. Another fact that Trump doesn't realize or chooses to ignore is that the trade deficits that he's so concerned about will always be there. It's impossible to make things "even".
True, people have SAID they would invest in new business but I wouldn't take it to the bank. When will you understand that Trump gets played ALL the time!!!
