"Sanctuary city" is just an idiomatic expression? Not a "status"

Of course you are. No secret. It's in the Marxist blood!

That is a lot of bull.....$$ only to monitor the entry of more illegals and give them legal protection.

Not quite. Marxists believe Marx is God. Just like you believe Trump is God. I don't believe in ANY gods.

I would start by punishing anyone who hires an illegal immigrant with a jail sentence.
    No exceptions.
    No excuses.
Once the market dries up, things would change.
Refugees would realize that the Statue of Liberty is a lie and go elsewhere.
Of course, it would also gut our economy, but we must pander to demagogues who demonize refugees, so we continue the great American tradition of attacking the latest crop of immigrants.
Never mind that we are a nation of immigrants who exterminated the indigenous population and stole half of Mexico to fulfill our manifest destiny.
Each generation has its own deplorables.

That sounds like a loooong torturous way of dealing with a problem. Because you would first need to prove that the person is an illegal immigrant. And only an immigration judge can do that. Then you would need to prove that the person hiring them KNEW he was an illegal immigrant. And that would require a criminal court, trial, jury...

Sound great on paper. But as a practical matter VERY expensive and unlikely to make any difference.

There is ONE way to solve this: Biden's border bill. It's unlikely Trump will implement it because... 1- It has the name "Biden" on it.... Imagine if he backs that bill, and they compare it to the one he ordered to be "buried". and 2- It's unlikely Republicans have ANY interest in solving immigration. They just want their voters to see them being cruel against immigrants. That's all. They're not interested in getting rid of them. They just want them tortured. So something akin to Trump's Child Separation Policy will be more satisfying to them. And it will also allow them to have something to run on for decades...

Mark is god....little G, just like Golem is a god unto himself. Perhaps some believe Trump is a god, but others who believe and trust in God understand that Trump's leadership is the best to offer right now in the fallen world we live in!

YOU put in the WH and avoid punishment a judicially proven rapist, convicted felon who tortured CHILDREN, who stole our government secrets and hid them in the bathroom, who 16 women (including his own WIFE) have accused them of rape or sexual abuse, who has abused workers and put people out of work when it was profitable, ...a REAL criminal. And you keep trying to find excuses to convince yourself that you did the right thing. You didn't! Accept it!

I'm an atheist. You believe in God. If I'm wrong and you're right, I have a MUCH better chance of going to heaven than you do.

You have your narrative....stick with it. I'm not earning my way into heaven, it's already been paid for, it's a done deal. One thing about eternity, there will be justice.

Without getting into immigration solutions, I want to focus on your overall premise, which is 'mandate', yes or no?

Well, I guess it depends on your definition of mandate.

You are suggesting that most of his voters voted for him on the immigration issue.

But most only equals 57% of Republicans believe that is their top priority. is that a mandate? It's strong, but mandate, when Trump won with less than 50% of the vote? I"m not seeing it, personally.

But many presidents are voted in on a single issue, and they weren't given mandate status.

If your victory falls short of 50%, that means more folks did not vote for him that did vote for him, so that can't possibly be considered a mandate.

How can that be the 'mandate' when 49% of Americans reported inflation as a top issue priority. Among Republicans, this concern was even higher, with 77% citing inflation as a very big problem. The inflation concern blows the immigration concern away.

    https://navigatorresearch.org/inflation-and-the-economy-remain-top-issue-priorities-for-americans

But the truth is that inflation has already been licked, it's down to the normal range, currently, but the problem is, hardly anyone is giving Biden credit for it. So, mandate or none, there is nothing for Trump to claim he 'has to do something' when it's already been done. And, with his tariffs, he's going to throw a wrecking ball into the good work of the Biden administration.

Not only that, you are doing democrats and liberals a disservice, because 'mandate', to conservatives and Trumpsters, means dems don't have a right to challenge his methods and madness, and that's the last kind of ammo you want to give right wingers.

In fact, I contend that Trump wouldn't have won, not for the immigration issue, but the inflation issue, which allowed him a small victory of 1.6%, less than 50% of the electorate, which, in ny view, no reasonable person would construe as a mandate, when more registered voters did not vote for him than did vote for him. Harris just didn't get dems to get out and vote, she got less support than Biden did, and she should have gotten more, as each election usually has more votes cast than the one prior, owing to population growth, new voters entering into the fray than the elderly leaving, etc.

Only 28% of likely voters claimed immigration was there top priority, and of Republicans, it was 57%.

When that is the stat, and it equals less than 50% of the electorate, I can't see how you get to 'mandate' by any course of logic.

I agree. It's sort of a subjective concept. But, as I explained before, a mandate is not a "right". It's an obligation! If Trump fails to take significant steps to solve immigration, his administration will be a failure. Like Obama's would have been a failure if he hadn't passed Obamacare. Or Biden if he hadn't kept us out of the recession. They both achieved what they were mandated to achieve.

I don't know the numbers. But, top priority or not, it is A top issue.

50% of the vote is typically what one would call a mandate for the whole agenda. This is why I limit what I perceive as a mandate to immigration.

If it's the major issue on the voter's minds, I would call it a mandate.

I disagree. I think it can be if it's the ONE issue they ran on.

Exactly!! I don't mention inflation because that is clear demagoguery. Trump never explained what "reducing inflation" meant. We DO know what solving the immigration issue is.

That was demagoguery similar to the last time when he ran on building a wall that Mexico was going to pay for.

This thread is about a topic that CAN be addressed. So I ask how it is that Trump WILL address it. The purpose of this thread was to find out if there were REAL solutions different from Biden's Border Bill. Most posters never answered the question. They just went on and on about unconstitutional nonsense. But the few who did invariably went back to Biden's proposals.

Which gives me an opportunity to educate them about what it REALLY means. So I explained in the OP that a mandate is not a "right". It's an obligation. And if Trump doesn't fulfill the obligation, his administration will have been a failure.

Trump wouldn't have won if he had told voters the truth. But he lied to them, and he won.

Harris lost because she didn't communicate FACTS to the American people. The fact that Trump is a convicted felon, a sexual abuser and tortured children (for example) should have been hammered into people's minds every single day. I don't mean that she should lie. I mean that she should tell lthe TRUTH. But instead she decided to go high, when Trump was going low. And that just doesn't work. Everything Mr. Trump touches dies. And one of his victims is civility in our political process. That is dead now. And the sooner democrats realize this the sooner they'll start winning elections again.

Ah! You would LOVE that, wouldn't you! That people who love our country left so fascists could turn it into a **** hole and shred our Constitution. Not gonna happen, though. More than ever patriotic folk need to be in this country to protect it from MAGAs who are intent on destroying it.

We need to keep it together for four years. And the more of us who help, the more unlikely Trump will succeed in his attempt to become a dictator.

You make some good points. I'm not interested in debating mandate - v- nonmandate, but I do agree immigration will be a major task for Trump. I also disagree that the Dems border bill is the answer - most of its features were more likely to encourage illegal immigration than to curtail it. It would spend massive sums to expedite handling immigrants - not curtailing their entrance. And many restrictions hinged on seven-day averages of immigrants before ANY major curtailment occurred.

My thought, as a first step would be to audit the list of immigrants waiting for asylum hearings. As I understand it they had to provide a point of contact so they could be summoned it a hearing to determine their eligibility. So, the first step is to confirm they are where they said they would be. Some form of contact would be made and if the person didn't respond his pre-asylum status is cancelled and he gets booted out.

Biden's border bill had two major aspects: more immigration judges, and more immigration agents. This would end the two most pressing problems in immigration: catch and release, and stopping those who want to come in illegally plus finding those who are already here illegally.

REPUBLICANS (including Trump) agreed that it would work (link in the OP).

Please do tell us how you would do that without more immigration judges and more agents. Given that you just said that doing that would "encourage" illegal immigration.

Nobody "earns" their way to heaven - according to the Bible.

BUT, the Bible confirms that Christians CAN earn their way to hell.

Lot of people define the term Christian very loosely. The Bible says (since you bring it up) "He who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it". So that debunks entirely what you pretend to know.

ABC on behalf of Stephen Stephenoupolis, just paid a several million dollar settlement to Trump's Presidential Library for spreading the same crap you are trying to spread. ABC will give $15 million to Trump's presidential library to settle defamation lawsuit | AP News Do you have the "stones" to cough up 15 million?$$$$

You are not a convicted felon until you are sentenced. Watch this lawfare get overturned.

That is obvious. Your idea of god is a government that dispenses "rights".

and yet it couldn't get through Congress.
Three words: Remain in Mexico. With millions of illegals on the loose more judges is a spit in the ocean. More officers merely do the paper work and put them on transportation. Once they're turned loose the likelihood that they'll show up for a hearing are pretty slim.

Today, being here without papers is, by itself, not a crime - it is a civil offense. So, they don't get the legal rights of a criminal court.

    They face civil court.

I have to admit I am not familiar with "Biden's Border Bill".
But I do know that the previous Immigration bill that the Democrats crafted, and which they claimed was "bipartisan", contained three "poison pills" that conservatives could never have been willing to agree to.

So I have some doubts and am skeptical that Biden's border bill was really what Democrats were representing it as.

If you have a thread that you could link to that takes a closer look at that subject, I would appreciate it.
