If believing Jesus was supernatural makes you a Christian does believing Jesus was an advanced alien species biological entity robot hybrid with advanced alien technology make you a Christian?

I don't think that would necessarily make you Christian. But it is honestly difficult to objectively define what it means to be "Christian."

I'm gonna go with no. I don't think believing Jesus was supernatural makes you a Christian. I could imagine someone thinking Jesus was a demon trying to lead people astray, that would be supernatural, but not necessarily Christ. I could also imagine someone who believes all people, Jesus included, are biological alien/human hybrids, but was otherwise normal, I probably wouldn't call such a person a Christian either. And either way, the first doesn't very much influence the latter, so you seem to have set up some condition that doesn't actually work very well.

Good point. Hell, Muslims see him as the Messiah, they just don't believe that the Messiah was supposed to be God, just the "anointed one." But of course that doesn't make Muslims Christian. There are Biblical Unitarians that I don't think most modern Christians would consider to be true Christians. Calvin even had at least one of them killed.

Satan believes Jesus is supernatural, is Satan Christian?

Believing in Jesus means to follow, trust, and believe in his teachings.

Believing Jesus was/is supernatural doesn't make you a Christian at all.

Believing Jesus is fully man and fully God, the second person of the Trinity (the triune person of God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit), and was crucified for your (and everyone's) sins, and was resurrected from the dead makes you a Christian.

yep, that is what I learned too, that God's Son had to be murdered in order for our sins to be forgiven, it was God's price for our salvation - all you have to do is believe that is true to be saved

This seems to be a common misconception many people have.
"Believing in Jesus" is not referring to the belief that Jesus exists or that Jesus had supernatural powers.

You can believe the President of the United States exists and has lots of power, but that does not mean you "believe in them".
Belief (as it is used here) is more like trust and confidence, willing to be reliant and dependent.

The truest meaning of the word Christian means believing that Jesus will save you. But at the very least, it means trusting in his teachings. You don't follow someone's guidance unless you believe in them.

I think the majority of Christendom worships Christ as god. I don’t think that is Christian. Christianity, in my opinion, is believing that Christ died for your sins because his father, God, asked him to do so. God and Christ are not the same person.

According to Matthew's report of what Jesus said in Matthew 25:31 to end you also have to walk the walk.

One can follow Gandhi's teaching without "believing in him" such as Christianity defines it.

I do think you have a point wrt the importance of walking the walk, thought.

Correct. That's also part of the fundamental difference between Catholic (and other "Orthodox" Christian churches) and Protestant churches. Protestant theology believes in the twin pillars of Sola Fide (by faith alone) and Sola Scriptura (by scripture alone). That's what let's a person respond to an altar call and and declare their faith and therefore be guaranteed a seat in Heaven.

Catholicism however sticks to the Matthew verse and never declares with certainty that you are going to Heaven. Basically when you die you'll have to meet God alone and answer for your life. You're always supposed to be approaching death with fear and trembling. You're going to need it.

Another interesting side bar is that the Catholic church never declares that anyone has gone to hell. This is best illustrated by the Book of Job. Job never declares that everyone needs to become Jewish to be saved. You just need to repent of your sin. The upshot is that Muslims, atheists, etc. can all get to Heaven. Now some folks might eventually be canonized and declared Saints after death and therefore we know they made it, but nobody is ever declared going to hell.

Now a standard disclaimer: I am in no way a ordained representative of the Catholic church and I'm willing to listen to any corrections anyone wants to make. God is a lifetime adventure in learning. And I'm old and learned this a long time ago so my recollection of things like Latin spelling may have failed. I'm asking your forgiveness ahead of time for anything I've misstated.

But I do hope that maybe your brain has been stimulated and possibly you will dive in and explore more. Even if it's just to prove me wrong.

I don't want to get into it here.

My experience isn't that protestants all believe that once saved, God will never reject an individual.

Also, the religion of the Bible changed in an astounding way between the OT and the NT. That can't be ignored.

I don't see why not. Supposing the 'soul' is a multidimensional aspect of an individual human, and our Creator used genetic engineering to make us, and Jesus' sacrifice involved helping humans avoid their 'aspect' being transferred to a dimension of suffering and torment, I dont think that would undermine any of the important parts of Christianity.

I've often wondered if the 'heaven' depicted in the Bible is just the human civilization of the distant future, after we've developed technology and society along the tennets Jesus taught.

Seems likely to me that we're intended to achieve a level of 'power' (floabt) similar to our Creator's, in the very distant future of course, using our technological creativity He instilled in us. After all, what Father doesnt dream of His children becoming as great or greater than He is?

I like to view the last 2000 years as something akin to humanity having moved out of 'Dad's house' and boozing up at college or w/e, learning some 'life lessons' that'll lead to us getting serious about making a future for ourselves.

Once, I read this essay called “Suicide Note”, it was a university philosophy guy who wrote that all of history has been about humanity trying to create god and that with the technological singularity coming humanity will have achieved its goal. He also contended that life had no purpose or meaning so to prove it, he killed himself, hence the title.

I found it with that old app, “Stumbleupon”. That was such a good app

I don't believe believing Jesus was/is supernatural makes you a Christian. I believe accepting Jesus is the son of God, is our Savior as He died on the cross for the removal of our sins, rose from the dead, ascended into heaven as the final redemptive act is what makes one a Christian.

Do you think you have to be a Trinitarian to be a Christian? I'm just curious. Some do, and some don't. Trinitarians believe that Jesus was the son of God and was also God and that three persons are God, but they are distinct from one another, and that there is still somehow only one God.

Yes, that would make him supernatural but knowing that alone doesn't make someone a Christian.

    (COMMENT)

As a general rule, all "Christians" believe in the "Supernatural" and most believe in a form of "Alchemy." However, our friend "mswan" is correct. There are many different kinds of supernatural deities and other spirit beings. Christians have their own protocols as to what they believe (the foundation of their faith). One of these protocols is the acceptance of the Three God Powers: Omnipotence: God is all-powerfulOmniscience: God is all-knowingOmnipresence: God is all-together everywhere all the time. These are individual supernatural capabilities.

I have my doubts that Americans are that rigorous about claims of being Christian.

Also, according to Matthew 25:31 to end (and others), Jesus demands that to avoid hell his believers must walk the walk.

By that statement, one must accept that a lot of those who meet your definition of "Christian" are still going to hell.
