The designated italian prime minister Guiseppe Conte just announced he cant form his government, because italian president Sergio Matarella told him he would not accept the anti-german Paolo Savona in the new cabinet.

With that the government building in Italy failed and new elections must be hold.

The 81 year old Savona says the Eu is a german empire and Italy suffers greatly under it.

Germany called Savona as unacceptable and demanded that the italian president does not allow him into cabinet. The Lega Nord Party which won election in Italy did cling to Savona and said only with him, Italy would be able to talk with Germany at eye sight.

Matarella now made clear he will not accept Savona in cabinet and because of this, coalition in Italy dies before it could take office

This region of the world is falling apart. I watch what's happening with attention.

Too bad Italy lost the good old habit of decorating their roads with crucified people.

I am suprised after WWII Europe would allow Germany to establish their empire via the EU.

Germany has the largest economy, largest population and sits in the center of Europe. It will always be the dominant power, no matter what.

So what you say is like being surpised that Europe allows gravity.

I admire everything which is based on discipline, strictness. Sad that now latin people (french, italian, spanish) are known for their non discipline.

Tyrants are only tall because we're on our knees.

European people get on full decadency mode, it's time to get some pride back.

I don't have problems with people being gay, that doesn't mean people should act as ******s.

However, I prefer feminine women, and I think it's best for men to be manly. Are men and women equal in value and worth in respect ? Yes. Should it mean that men and women are the same and should have the same roles ? I don't think so.

Decadency is incarnated by laziness, vulgarity, culture of drugs, sex, alcohol, refusal of self responsibility, work culture.

Not an accurate assessment of the situation at all Sobo.

But a good question is, what next? Will elections be held? If so, will this hurt or help the cause of Italian Eurosceptics?

I suspect that it will help.

    1. Why announce new elections? The results were inconvenient? The new style of democracy with the 'keep voting till we get the right results' is disturbing.

    2. Germany, with Merkel welcoming all immigrants, almost distroyed Italy, and put a shadow on Europe s future. It is normal for a country like Italy to be anti German, you brought this on yourselves.

    3. After the realection of Merkel, you reminded us how stupids Germans actually are. Drop the germany greatness myth, the 'leaders', most Europeans think you are either plain stupid or lunatics. Everyone will try to avoid you. You had your only chance to save the EU with a new chancellor.

    4. Germany has no right to dictate others or the power to do so. Others, like Americans arguably have, because they have a big stick to beat disobediers

    5. You risk damaging the only asset that you have. The EU. As I said plain stupid or lunatics.

You will argue that you have money, you are the best, the rest are colonies and so on. You are delusional if you think that. Nobody gives a crap about that. They stayed in the EU, because the pros outweigh the cons. That was the case untill the greek debt and the great migration. Now everybody dumps EU and no, nobody fears you so you can't put countries in the place of your willing, it will just backfire horrible. Macron was elected because of ' fix EU or else leave it'. The germans and some benefiting east eu countries are pro, the rest of the continent is anti EU. Brexit was the beginning of the end of EU, Liga being elected are the steps between, more to follow

We dont allow an anti german minister in the italian government. Its up zo Italy to bear the consequences. Our government said in that case we would stop economic and intelligence cooperation and it appears the italian president did not want take that risk.

Merkel is anti migrant since 2016. Its up to Italy to protect its shores.

We showed our tools, when we starved greek pensioners in 2015 and forced greeks to comply.

Italy is bound by the € and would collapse if it leaves, so let them make their decission.

And **** migrants, this is about money.

Allow? If half your country thinks the way you do it won't be long before your influence is revolted against.

I have to say Sobo that you are exhibiting double standards/hypocrisy here. You post often about America's pewrnicious influence in the EU - but here you are applauding Germany's pernicious influence in Italian democratic election decision.

Because Germany is de facto interfering in the outcome of the election of a sovereign nation (Italy) by blackmailing the president of Italy to restrict the coalition's choice of minister.

Were America to do the same thing to Germany (as indeed they have done in the past as well as the rest of the principal European nations, in fact), you'd quite rightly be angry and intolerant of the decision.

Nations either have democracy or they don't. They either respect democracy of they don't.

What Italy now endures is a soft form of foreign diktat --- dictatorship if you like.

It's a double standard, as I said earlier.

My post had some harsh words, I take them back, glad you didn't take it personally.

I was so disappointed of the realection of Merkel, and most Europeans are. She is despised continent wide, and unfortunately nobody will follow your lead because of that, despite multiple qualities of German people like good organisational abilities.

And yes this is about money and well-being, but some countries could consider default on debt, collapse and start from 0 if they think it will outweigh those cons and others in the long run. People support is there, which is a strong factor. Don' exclude the option, it is a possible scenario.

The Italians should assert sovereignty and tell Germany to go straight to hell.

Why are you coming here and boring Americans by bragging about the power of germany over a poor little country like Italy?
