Vlady, the KGB spook, has brilliantly undermined Western democratic alliances - NATO and the EU conspicuous among them - via far subtler and cheaper intrigue than Soviet military might.

U.S. intelligence officials and the governments of several European Union countries have accused Russia of interfering in their elections in recent years, weakening those nations by sewing internal discord. And the factions assisted by Russian interference eagerly, both unwittingly and witlessly, serve Putin by their self-serving efforts to thwart attempts to expose the treachery.

Indications are that Poutine Pooty now has Canada is his sights.

The Trump Administration's Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein appointed former Department of Justice official and FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III "to serve as Special Counsel to oversee the previously-confirmed FBI investigation of Russian government efforts to influence the 2016 presidential election and related matters."
    https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/appointment-special-counsel

The indictments, convictions, and confessions of criminals such as the Trump campaign manager, the Trump national security adviser, and various Trump campaign operatives pertain to the “related matters.”

The Trump Attorney General, in his sanitized tease, said nothing about the specific contacts between the Trump campaign and Russians that Mueller analyzed or the evidence that the special counsel turned up in the course of his 22-month investigation, which included issuing roughly 2,800 subpoenas, executing nearly 500 search warrants, and interviewing some 500 witnesses.

Many contacts between the campaign and Russia have already been subject to public reporting or disclosure. Former national security adviser Michael Flynn, for example, pleaded guilty to lying to federal agents about his talks with the Russian ambassador in a deal to cooperate with Mueller’s probe.

Trump has also admitted that the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting between his members of his campaign and family and a Kremlin-linked lawyer was arranged to receive “opposition research” on his opponent Hillary Clinton; participants of the meeting say that it did not bear fruit.

The report is likely to offer a more intimidate glance at the conduct examined by Mueller’s investigators, including what Flynn, Michael Cohen and other Trump associates detailed in the course of their cooperation with the investigation.

Barr’s letter also includes a passing reference to the “multiple offers from Russian-affiliated individuals to assist the Trump campaign” in a section discussing the Kremlin’s theft and release of Democratic emails – suggesting the special counsel’s report discusses those contacts in greater detail.

Is it a matter of vital national security to expose Putin’s odious machinations to damage the US and other democracies by attacking their elective processes.

It certainly deserves the national focus rather than petty, partisan sideshows.

Surrender to Putin is not an option.

Trumpists, based on numerous posts, continue to be confounded by this fact (among many, many others). No doubt because they are easily persuaded by the Liar-in-Chief's rantings on the subject, implying something nefarious about Rosenstein's appointment of Mueller.

Your "left" is your concern, as are any motives you may entertain for surrendering to Putin.

Putin could never have dreamt of finding a friend like Trump. Putin can just sit back and watch Trump carry the load. Trump is a devoted divider and international wrecking ball. He has divided America, encouraged nationalism throughout the world, encouraged world dictators, disparaged a free press, weakened NATO, and is trying, desperately, to divide the European Union. Putin and Xi couldn’t be more pleased.

Trump is merely a convenient pawn. Putin cannot be allowed to pervert the US democratic process.

I agree that Trump has exceeded Putin's wildest expectations. Putin is far more likely to have anticipated the big cry baby losing and maligning the US elective process ad nauseam. He was already whining the election was "fixed" and the electoral college system "a disaster" before he was surprised by the results.

    Disregard Trump. Nail Putin.

Trump has dangerously escalated the situation with Russian more than almost any other president, recently. Where the **** do you people come up with this nonsense?
Seriously, you people won’t be happy until you circle jerk this country into a third world war.

We have a general welfare clause not a general warfare clause.

Whenever shall the right wing be True capitalists and capitalize on their Commerce Clause instead of Government solving all problems for them.

Can you read? Who’s pushing war with the Russians, because they lost a election?

I've often said - on this board - that I didn't believe Trump to be intelligent enough for collusion. Not wittingly. He speaks, so often, without thinking that his active participation in that kind of treasonous activity would be out of the bag. But unwittingly, I believe he has made a glorious pawn for Putin.

    Agreed.

Look what the US has done to Russia since President Trump took office. Why do they think Putin is pushing back to hard?

There is a disconnect from reality on the left that is so substantial, it's disturbing.

I guess giving the Ukrainians offensive weaponry, occupying a chunk of Syria, and trying to overthrow Russia’s proxy in Venezuela, is all apart of Putin’s master plan. We should have invested in tinfoil after the election, we’d all be rich.

You mean the way Obama was Putin's pawn, when he was famously saying to tell Vladimir that he would have "more flexibility" after he gets re-elected? Or telling Vladimir to "knock it off" concerning interfering in the 2016 election? I am QUITE sure that put the fear of God into good old Vlad. Obama did nothing...worst 2term president in my lifetime. Carter is th worst one term president.

Hyper-partisan anxieties cannot be permitted to allow the security of the United States to be violated without a vigorous defense.

The Republican-run Senate Committee on Intelligence unambiguously acknowledged the attack by a hostile foreign power:

The quislings who advocating going limp and submitting to Putin's perfidy betray the USA.

It would be as if the events of December 7, 1941 had been ignored because responding did not fit with someone's petty political agenda.

One has to wonder if some ever venture in to the realm of reality. Putin and Obama hated each other and Putin's relationship with Clinton was even worse. If Obama was the worst president in your lifetime you must have a lifetime of facts to roll out for us to see. Do you? Obama left office with an approval of 65% What are you missing? Please tell us.
