    I would think he was partial to the M-1 Carbine instead.

    What's the difference in appearance? Could you see the fire selector? Early AR-15s looked just like early M-16s, except for the fire selector.

    It probably is.

    However, he was a lifetime member of the NRA, and given such quotes by him as below, its likely he would view today's left's stance on gun control with much disappointment and disdain. Do a bit of research on Civil Defense to find out exactly how JFK felt about The Militia, 'prepping', the civilian role in national security and civilian firearm ownership in general.

    I should be more explicit, and less ambiguous in my posts, I should have said;
    It looks like a posed shot of J.F.K. with the Military rifle du jour, a standard M-16 for some type of press release etc..... Rather than a personal firearm, dressed up, not casual attire, since he enjoyed casual attire.

    If you see a photo of an M16 the Auto Sear pin is more of an visually identifying marker than the selector markings, easier to see.

    And yes, I did my research years ago, his P.T. boat service, his stance on civilian firearms, N.R.A. Membership etc.....
