‘Fictitious’ facts and ‘imagined’ history: GOP Rep. Ken Buck slams Biden impeachment effort

GOP Rep. Ken Buck, a member of the hardline House Freedom Caucus, slammed his caucus and party’s efforts to impeach President Joe Biden as “relying on an imagined history.”

“Trump’s impeachment in 2019 was a disgrace to the Constitution and a disservice to Americans. The GOP’s reprise in 2023 is no better,” Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.) wrote in an op-ed published Friday.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) announced the impeachment inquiry into Biden this week in an attempt to placate his conservative critics. Buck’s positioning as an impeachment skeptic is something of an anomaly among hardline conservatives in the the far-right caucus responsible for McCarthy’s many headaches.

In an interview last Sunday, Buck suggested that “there is not a strong connection at this point between the evidence on Hunter Biden and any evidence connecting the president.” He seemed to have changed his mind Tuesday, when he called the inquiry a “good move.”

But, on Thursday in an interview with Jake Tapper on CNN, he reverted to his previous stance: “I want to make sure we don’t ruin this institution over a tit-for-tat impeachment. If the evidence is there, Jake, I will absolutely vote for impeachment. I don’t see the evidence at this point.”

The reflexive response by Repubs will no doubt be to throw Ken under the "we don't tolerate dissent" bus. The same bus that runs over any Repub, like Liz Cheney and Mitt Romney, who dares to speak the truth. Because if they allow truth to gets its foot in the door, they run the risk of collapsing the whole house of cards.

this is why McCarthy dictated that the impeachment inquiry would proceed and is now stating he is sick and tired of the games.

Buck opposed Trump's impeachments, too. At least he's consistent.

A point that is made, is that had Trump not been impeached, then the Biden impeachment wouldn't be happening.

The Democrats need to think about that.

Sharyl Attkisson has interviewed Ken Buck a few times on her show, and he came across to be as responsible and intelligent.

He sure missed the boat on the Biden situation if this story is accurate. Maybe his statement was taken out of context. Biden is an imposter, installed by the deep state in a rigged election.

Think??? They're in full denial of reality mode. No thinking involved.

"Oh, Hunter's laptop has been known for years!"

Really? Two weeks before the election? That's "years" in your world?

Impeachment is not supposed to be about retribution. The overwhelming evidence shows Buck was wrong to oppose the 2019 impeachment.

Government watchdog concludes Trump administration broke law by withholding Ukraine aid
    https://www.cnn.com/2020/01/16/poli...ation-violated-law-withholding-aid/index.html

The Government Accountability Office said the Trump administration broke the law when it withheld US security aid to Ukraine last year that had been appropriated by Congress, a decision that’s at the heart of the House’s impeachment case against President Donald Trump.

The GAO, a nonpartisan congressional watchdog, said in a decision issued Thursday that the White House budget office violated the Impoundment Control Act, a 1974 law that limits the White House from withholding funds that Congress has appropriated.

“Faithful execution of the law does not permit the President to substitute his own policy priorities for those that Congress has enacted into law,” the GAO wrote. “OMB withheld funds for a policy reason, which is not permitted under the Impoundment Control Act. The withholding was not a programmatic delay. Therefore, we conclude that OMB violated the ICA.”

Not necessarily but I do agree that trying to impeach a democrat president with a democrat senate is fairly stupid. Impeachment is a political action and the democrats do politics better.
