It is simply not a sustainable strategy. I think they're determined to use it in part because it "worked" for them in WWII and Stalin and others came to regard it highly as a consequence and model their military doctrine around it. But as with employing such "zerging" tactics in real-time strategy games such as Starcraft, the origin of this strategy's name, it is high-risk and either leads to victory or catastrophic defeat, since either you destroy your opponent or you're left with no army to speak of. Since Russia has a larger military and higher population to begin with, they of course are banking on exhausting Ukraine to the point of surrender or defeat, but whether that succeeds depends on Ukraine's defense, how much aid they receive, and even how many foreign volunteers show up to fight and bolster their defense. I hope for their sake that Ukraine can keep the loss ratios well in their favor, as this is their only hope of holding out and forcing Russia into capitulation, be it from the top or from the frustrated rank and file.

Of course....it's all about "message".....Pootler basically laid his cards on the table finally about his "desires"....this is all he's got left.

I suspect he'll sacrifice 10-20% of his own population.....and his "zombies" won't care.

sure, over the long term I totally agree it isn't but conversely the only arbiter of what constitutes a victory is down to Putin so as a strategy it will be as stainable for as long as Putin wants it to be....the west so far has not really helped Ukraine towards anything close to a victory....if could so easliy have done that on day one of the conflict but didn't..... and still doesn't...Russia only understands force and so far...well....the west has been pretty feeble in response.

The spasms of a dying tyranny. The West goes about our business of helping Ukrainians kill Russians.

Yeah....you've got many more players involved here...RuZzias not the USSR and doesn't have the backing.....(well China providing some merely for its own gain), and Ukraine getting support from 100+ countries.

Well, western countries have to marshal democratically elected officials and the populations who elect them into providing support, and these are economies that have not been geared toward large-scale war production for a long time and need to be pivoted in that direction. The west wasn't even confident that Ukraine would hold up, hence all the initial hesitancy to provide extensive support. The main failure has been in how slow the change in attitude and increase in support have been since the Ukrainians proved themselves to be so motivated and capable, and of course the Russians proved themselves to be so incompetent and unprepared for the kind of resistance they faced.

Not true ?! - Strikes on a few Russian Oil facilities have not hampered Putins advances on the front line. The Russian's continuing to make daily gains .. the Ukrainian defenses collapsing over the majority of the front line.

Need to find yourself some better sources durdl but more important is to be able to vet the sources that you do have .. surely you were able to figure out that the headline is pure false nonsense on your own .. which begs the question ?? :)

A whole lot of made up fantasy and fairy tale .. and mirroring Ukraine and Bibi's activities onto Russia.

Look Scotty .. and I told you before so why are you still repeating this crucified position .. Vlad is a gentle Giant by comparison to Bibi in Gaza .. or any war the US is engaged in .. proxy or otherwise .. or the Azov Nazi's for that matter .. targeting civilians often. Russia has ridiculously low civilian casualties ... a model for civil conduct of war :) LOL ..and your musings are preposterous false nonsense on steroids.

Scotty -- the Casualty ratio is 7-1 .. that is 7 Ukrainians for every 1 Russian.. Uki on the run and getting slaughtered .. outgunned 10-1 artillery in an artillery war .. Russia in control of the sky .. drones targeting the artillery more accurately than in any war before. .. along with big big glide bombs .. cruise missiles and so on.

"Kidnapping" as legit method of leverage. LOL what joke .. your confusing Bibi with Putin Again. Acts of sabotage "assassinations" ?? That is your Boy Bibi .. and Genocide Joe .. and Trump Brother Mo .. you got the santa claus fairy tales all mixed up going ho ho ho...

As Russian combat power decreases, Kremlin propaganda generation increases. It seems to be a relationship of inverse proportion.

Yes, given the right weapons and gear Ukrainians find ways to neutralize Russia's military.

Ukrainian startup Esper Bionics makes cyborgs a reality

    Kyiv Independent on MSN.com

    |15 hours ago [7/31/24]

Outmanned and outgunned, Ukrainian soldiers in 2014-2015 held Donetsk Airport from attacking Russian-backed forces for more than 240 days before retreating from the destroyed structure. They became known in Ukraine as "cyborgs" for their apparent near super-human defense.

sure I don't disagree and again its all about messaging. But instead of standing up and saying "there will be no NATO boots on the ground!!" just shut the f**k up and stop laying out your battle plan....don't aid the enemy. Macron stated that he would not rule out NATO troops and instantly Western leaders went batsh|t crazy beating each up to be first to the podium telling the world it's not true....stupid. The one thing Putin fears....the one thing that scares the crap out of him is a direct conflict with NATO and that's what all those f**kwits ruled out. Right from the get go whilst the world was reeling from this invasion the west should have opened the showroom and put troops on the ground in Kyiv.

You mentioned incompetence on the part of the Russians which I agree with but I'd also say that applies to the west in bucket loads.

What the west still doesn't get is that the only way Putin will back down is with violence being delivered in buckets. All this farting around is doing nobody any good. The west needs to give UKraine the shop and let them do what the hell they like with the kit....can you believe even at this stage UK / USA...everyone is still providing safe haven to Russia....staggering

You know the news has to be very grim.
Messengers for bad news are probably not well received these days.

....well....IMHO it's the West meandering around hoping it will not have to face the prospect of dealing with Russia...Poland and the Baltics are the only people that seem to get it.
