It's just a continual failure by Republicans and Right-Wingers: harp on one thing that you are just positive is going to doom the thing that you're against, only to have the rug pulled out from under you when it turns out that thing isn't depended upon for success.

Lithium-ion batteries have ruled for decades. Now they have a challenger.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/clim...sodium-ion-batteries-sustainable-alternative/

After decades of lithium-ion batteries dominating the market, a new option has emerged: batteries made with sodium ions.

Scientists have been researching alternatives to lithium for years. Much of the world relies on this kind of battery, but the mining and processing of its materials can be harmful to workers, local communities and the environment.

Sodium has recently emerged as one of the more promising options, and experts say the material could be a cheaper and more environmentally friendly alternative to lithium.

    From your link:
"But sodium-ion batteries are still early in their development compared with lithium-ion, and they have yet to hit the market on a massive scale.

“It’s unlikely sodium-ion could displace lithium-ion anytime soon,” said Keith Beers, polymer science and materials chemistry principal engineer at technical consultancy firm Exponent."

It's just a shame that battery type isn't the real problem with EVs.

It's that EVs suck in general when compared to ICE.

Now that the "LITHIUM WILL KILL US ALL!" crowd has once again been marginalized by the everprogressing technology, what will the oil apologists do now?

Fill up our tanks and enjoy our vehicles as usual, I suspect.

I can't wait to see a mass evacuation out of the state of Florida during hurricane season when everyone is on the interstate with electric cars.

It will be a parking lot.

You're the one that feels the need to make the topic overly political.

Why do progressives have to insert politics into literally every single thing they discuss?

The only way they can justify their policies are to blame some brand of systemic injustice of which they can document no examples. It's like phlogiston.

They are not new. They tend to be 3 times as heavy and hold less energy. That is why they weren't already the standard. If they next level them, go for them, but rechargeable cars are still a big city status item that wont replace ICE in my lifetime.

If you are not one of the alternative energy haters whose angle is "lithium mining is da debbil!", then I have unfairly lumped you into that group.

So you have no issues with lithium mining, right? That's not your objection?

Edit: oh, not you - @Jack Hays . I guess you were being insulted on his behalf.

All the rabidly anti-alternative energy people just coincidentally happen to be MAGA?

And all the obsessed pro-alternative energy people just coincidentally happen to be Progressives?

Maybe you shouldn't have started your own thread with a lie.

Conservatives love renewable energy and high capacity batteries as much as anyone else. 10 million users of Dewalt, Bosch, Milwaukee, and Ridgid users work the construction trades every single day in America.

What they do not like, is leftists penalizing and denigrating people who call out how incompetently you all are with implementing laws that hurt the average American.

Did you happen to hear about the Giant lithium battery plant fire and subsequent explosions that currently happened in Fredericksburg Missouri?

How long do you think that made the area toxic for?

That's foolish post. My objection to the EV is simply that it's a technological step backward.

I don’t know any "rabidly anti-alternative energy people", just technically competent people who understand the pretty severe limitations of alternative energy schemes. And therefore are in favor of what is best for humanity, not what is best for loud mouthed elites.
