What the hell are you talking about? The Taliban were in charge when the US attacked Afghanistan in 2002. What kind of trolling is this, I dont buy the stuff you are telling here no more. You pretend to be engaged in the military in Iraq, you claim you had friends who died in the invasion of Afghanistan, yet, you dont know that you attacked the Taliban regime back then and claim, that without your invasion they would have not been in charge?

I dont buy your stuff no more.

Lol, I never claimed the Taliban wasn't in charge there. My point was that after 20 YEARS, thousands of dead US soldiers, tens of thousands of dead civilians, there was literally no gain. It was all for nothing. What exactly do you think we accomplished there??? What was worth the lives of 2,459 US soldiers that could not have been accomplished by other far less costly means?

It would not necessarily take an invasion of US boots on the ground to take out the Taliban, and would not even be worth doing, seeing as how they are still in power. If it was acceptable to retreat while the Taliban was in power, then it was certainly acceptable not to invade in the first place with the Taliban in power.

And I never claimed that the whole operation was a huge success, but how can you imply that brought the Taliban to power, when they actually were in power when the US attacked Afghanistan. The Bush administration led by naive or stupid advisors thought at this point they could go around the world and establish democracies "just" like they did it in Germany or other succesful cases. They thought "if we eliminate the tyran people will love freedom and democracy" while the reality is, it will not work everywhere and it will never work with an islamic population.

The success was Bin Laden is dead (although I am not even sure if you can put that on the bill of the invasion or if the US could have killed him eventually otherwise if they didnt invade, I mean it took almost 10 years). Some women especially but some men too got a taste of freedomm from Burkas, being allowed to visit schools, whatsoever. We dont know what that will be worth on the long run ... future will show eventually.

The downside are the losses you spoke about, civil war (although not clear if without invasion that was avoidable), billions of dollars sunken into a shithole. No, I dont think it was worth it overall, I mean in the aftermath I know now, nation building, building up of a democracy will always fail with an islamic population, but was it so sure at that point?

Overall I would consider that operation as a failure too, but my point was the Taliban would have never lost the power without that invasion and your comment implied that the US invasion brought the Taliban.
