Clearly, the fact I can easily can freely exercise my right to keep and bear arms is to blame here.

Dumb laws regarding stealing. Not sure locking up people is the complete answer.

I would be more concerned about the many Americans that would like to see gun reform

    It's a crisis for Americans.

is gun reform another code word for leftist desires to harass lawful gun owners so they won't have to actually demand harsher punishment for real criminals?

There are no shootings in conservative states? Huh…that’s so surprising. Wow…learn something everyday. Sarcasm off.
There are shootings in every state….blue and red. Stop being disingenuous.

    Fallacy: appeal to popularity.
If only criminals obeyed the law - right?

    Yes... Let's.
Around 30 guns per day are used to murder someone in the US.
    How many are not?

At least they are focusing their energy on the type of gun that causes the most trouble. You know, the scary kind used in < 3% of the murders.

In 2022, 8 'assault weapons' were used in mass shootings to murder 54 people.
    It's a slaughter.

Not what I asked. Is your average citizen not to be trusted with a weapon?

it is really not the right to keep and bear arms, it is the attitude.

Recently, two incidents occurred. One was taking a firearm into a bar that serves alcohol. It is stated clearly on private property that firearms are not allowed. Even if there was no sign, why would anyone would bring a firearm into a bar, conceal the firearm, drink alcohol, and know that when alcohol and tempers flare, it is never a good thing? And don't give me "well, he has a right to defend himself." there is no right to defend himself. There are laws that show if one can legally be justified in defending, but no right under the US or State Constitution.

The main problem we have is attitudes. Guns are now perceived as the panacea, the snake oil, which can solve any and all problems. That is also not the case. A lot times, simply walking away is a lot harder than pulling out the firearm and "defending oneself." And that applies to all parties involved.

Finally, I am not arguing for banning firearms. But we do need to recognize the availability of firearms, the ease with which anyone, from those who never committed a crime to those who have rap sheets as long as their arm, can find firearms with relative ease. That is one part and the more important part is attitude and a lack of discernment on when to use them. Most people use firearms as a crutch when they get into trouble of their own making. And that is why we have the problems we have today.

Why can’t the average citizen have a weapon?

They can, but the better question is should they by their own prerogative?

They could easily express their temper issues in other ways.

guns aren’t the problem, people are.
