The 2018 midterms got a bit more exciting on Tuesday. The longest serving Republican senator in American history, Orrin Hatch of Utah, announcedthat he would not run for re-election. His retirement is unlikely to provide Democrats with much of an opportunity to win another Senate seat, but the door is now wide open for Trump nemesis and 2012 GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney, who has reportedly told people he would enter the race if Hatch retired.

He's Mormon. He carried Utah easily. He's rabidly anti-Trump so the media and press will absolutely now LOVE him.

    What say you?

I say no. There are already too many Democrats in Congress wearing a Republican uniform - and too many Republican sore losers blindly jealous of President Trump.

Report: Romney Prepping Senate Run in Utah if Hatch Retires.....
    Sep 11, 2017.

Former presidential nominee Mitt Romney is prepared to run for Senate in Utah if the state’s senior GOP senator Orrin G. Hatch decides to retire, Utah Policy reported Monday.

The report cited unnamed sources close to Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, who said he is preparing a Senate run in case Hatch opts not to run again. Hatch had previously said this term would be his last, but he has since signaled he could run for an eighth time.

    Romney currently lives in Utah.

Hatch is the most senior GOP senator and is the chairman of the powerful Senate Finance Committee. Hatch has said in the past that he would hope someone like Romney would run for his seat were he to retire. Hatch has also said that Romney would not challenge him for the seat if he runs for another term.

Salt Lake County councilmember Jenny Wilson is running on the Democratic side. Inside Elections with Nathan L. Gonzales rates the Utah Senate race as Solid Republican......snip~

Please for the love of God no. He's got too much baggage, like most established politicians these days.
Stop running out for office candidates who are WAY past their sell by date. Are there really no up and comers in the party? If there are not, what does that say about the party?

Only a warped mind would put their family through the grinder of today's political campaign. If the best they could put on the board were Trump and Hillary, then we really do have problems with recruiting people.

The liberal media hated romney when he ran against obama

And they will hate him again if he gets the GOP nomination again

But for now if he is anti trump the liberal media will love him

It looks as if the GOP may have a viable presidential candidate in 2020, after all!
Hatch’s retirement news immediately set off speculation that 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney would seek to replace him in the Senate. The former Massachusetts governor lent credence to the idea on Tuesday evening, when he changed his Twitter location to Utah. Romney has primarily lived in Utah since 2013, but until now his social media profile has listed him as still living in Boston.

Should he decide to run, Romney would be heavily favored to win.

Romney did not join with the lickspittle Republicans who admired the emperor’s new clothes,
but gave them the heebie-jeebies by bluntly stating what they all knew, that he was bare-arsed:

    “… a con man and a fake.”
"Donald Trump is a phony, a fraud. His promises are as worthless as a degree from Trump University.”

In a coming November that has the GOP fearing the wages of trumpery they will receive as recompense from the electorate (barring the alt-universe’s Svengali Bannon discovering a Mormon Roy Moore, of course) a third Massachusetts liberal will join the US Senate! (... and see it as a stepping stone.)

Yes there is.....Mia Love. But she wont run against Romney. Already the clamp down is in play and Romney will win the Senate Seat with no problem whatsoever. Not even the Deviate Demos can do anything about it.

Its a shame that Demo Light will once again hold a spot in the GOP.

Romney is yet another good American man who was ruthlessly mocked, ridiculed, and discarded by the worldly, liberal hordes.

In fact, Willard, as governor of the best-educated state in the nation, provided national leadership when he promoted and signed into law the universal-coverage, individually-mandated, health care reform that became the model for the nation.

As Tea Party superstar Senator Jim DeMint enthused,

Romney promises to be the ailing GOP's antidote to Trumpery.

Yea, he polls really, really well in Utah. I think that no one wants to even try and challenge him in Utah should he run.

Analysis: The Utah Senate Seat is Mitt Romney's To Lose.....

That die has now been cast, and the likeliest beneficiary of Hatch's move is former GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney. Whispers have swirled for some time that Romney was eyeing a Senate run, prompting reports of an intra-party struggle playing out wherein elements of Team Trump sought to woo Hatch to run again, as a means of blocking Romney. Trump loyalists -- including the president himself -- view the former Massachusetts governor as an antagonist who's been sharply critical of Trump, especially throughout the 2016 election cycle. Via The Atlantic's McKay Coppins, whose reporting on the Utah Senate internal skirmishes and tea leaves has been unsurpassed:

That story was published in late December, and had DC buzzing. Was the heavily-rumored and allegedly carefully-planned handoff between Hatch and Romney about to be superseded by a freshly-"choreographed" boost from the White House to keep the state's senior Senator around? A few weeks hence, Hatch has spurned Trump's overtures by confirming he will step aside, clearing the path for a man whom he's described as the "perfect" candidate to replace him. How strong is Romney's hand moving forward? Very. He'll start with Hatch's full-throated endorsement (the effect of which may be slightly muted due to Hatch's low approval rating at home), along with the support of a wide network of power players in the Utah GOP (click that link and read some of those quotes). He also enjoys massive popularity in his adoptive home state, where he's owned a home for years and is beloved for his exceptional work saving the 2002 Olympic games. This gap is striking and illustrative of the mood of the Beehive State's conservative but Trump-skeptical electorate:

I'll leave you with two more points on this: First, the Bannonite wing of the GOP is dead set against Romney, but their influence is extremely limited in Utah, a state in which Trump garnered just 14 percent of the GOP caucus vote (finishing third out of three). Utah's Republican governor also blasted Steve Bannon's religiously-tinged attacks against Romney, and that was before Bannon's disastrous candidate lost an unloseable race in another crimson state. Bannon's stock is way down, and justifiably so. Second, I've already seen lefty Twitter starting to grumble about how Romney is only "Never Trump" on a rhetorical level, and would vote for much of Trump's agenda. This is a common, and profoundly stupid, attack that's frequently leveled by cynical liberals against Trump-suspicious conservative lawmakers.....snip~

The only good news is that.....the DEMO will be crushed by the Romney eyeliner.

Trump's problems with congress was at his own making. It was Trump who made war on lifelong Republicans. I don't and haven't ever considered Trump an Republican. He is a man without a party whose loyalty is only to himself. He has switched parties eight times that we know of. Trump is the RINO. Most of his supporters are loyal to him, not to the Republican Party.

As for Romney, his time is gone. forget him.

But keep in mind, representatives are suppose to represent the district they are from. Senators the state in which elected them. The wishes, wants and opinions of the people of their district and state should come first before any political party identification or even ideology. Hence you can have a liberal Republican from the Northeast and a fairly conservative democrat from West Virginia. We're having all sorts of problems today as our elected officials have forgot whom they are suppose to represent.

Sorry if it evoked anyone's prurient interests.

If you can compose yourself, there is a serious possibility of Romney's winning back the GOP from trumpery, don't you think?

Romney has long had presidential ambitions, and his stars (Kolob & Co.) are aligning. Hatch ignores sh!thole donny's pleading that he run again to block Willard, and Willard is presented with a magic stepping stone to the 2020 GOP presidential nomination.

Romney will refrain from commenting on sh¡thole as much as possible until he is in the Senate. Reportedly, he recently asked the Utah congressional delegation, “Who’s going to stand up to Trump?” He wouldn't ask if he did not already have the answer.

Hint: He had already nailed sh¡thold as a "con man, a fake, a phony and a fraud!", noting that, "His promises are as worthless as a degree from Trump University. He’s playing the American public for suckers: He gets a free ride to the White House and all we get is a lousy hat!"

Real Republicans will not only be ready for the return of competence, stability and decency in '20, they'll be desperate for it.
