Where does the passion of Democrats really lie — in improving lives of Americans or in dramatically expanding government?

Equally revealing is what does not interest progressives at all.

A little more than a decade ago, Ron Haskins and Isabel Sawhill at the Brookings Institution publicized what they called the "success sequence."

The success sequence consists of three steps in behavior to avoid poverty. Complete at least a high school education, work full time, and wait until age 21 before getting married and then having children.

According to testimony of Haskins in the U.S. Senate in 2012, those following the "success sequence" have a 2% chance of being in poverty and a 75% chance of reaching the middle class.

But the success sequence doesn't much interest progressives because the focus is about individuals taking personal responsibility for their lives in a free country. The "personal responsibility" part and the "free country" part have little standing in the Democratic Party.

Also of little interest to our progressive friends is that larding down our economy with massive amounts of government retards economic growth. Why would anyone think slow economic growth is good for the poor, let alone any American?

As Americans allow themselves to be convinced that government is the answer to their lives, they become more likely to abandon faith and religion, which provide the light and principles for individuals to take control of their own lives.

New data from the Pew Research Center shows the toll that secularization is taking on our country.

    T
he secular progressive left seems to believe that government can replace God and religion in the American peoples lives. They are wrong. The zeal of the bicoastal urban secular progressive elites in their intolerance of religion and bigotry against religious people seemingly knows no bounds. George Washington was right about what America needs to succeed.

A perfect example of the secular progressives bigotry and intolerance bordering on hate of religion and religious people, particularly Orthodox Jews and evangelical Christians, conservative Catholics is MBFC. A reading of their descriptions of various sites controlled or influenced by the above shows their absolute contempt for everything we believe in. Another example of secular progressive bigotry and hate is the SPLC and their so called hate list and how many Christian groups they list as “hate” in an attempt to silence us. Conservative and Christian and most of our organizations are on it. Alliance Defending Freedom, Family Research Council, American Family Association, Concerned Women for America just to name a few.

Big government is the replacement god for secularists and progressives. They see God and the constitution as obstacles to be overcome to reach their dystopian utopia.

I believe that Democrats have a genuine concern for society and that politicians are exploiting that concern for the purpose of gaining/maintaining power.

I also believe that religious beliefs are being exploited by Republican politicians for the same reason.

Personally, I feel that society is better off with less religion and less government.

Well, Lord, have mercy. What do you expect them to do with all the extra time they would gain by not minding everybody else's business? As much as they scream about rights, they sure have no problem trying to take away everybody else's.

But that is exactly what you were doing to us when you said “nope”. We believe and think what I said and what the seeded article said.

That is not entirely true. Every person views the world through their own lens and processes that through their own experiences, knowledge, training and anything that helps them make sense of the world around them. That's not a political thing. It's part of the human condition.

And, trying to sell it as political diminishes the argument. There is nobody on the planet (or probably all of them) that is more immoral, unethical and evil than Trump and he's not on the left or progressive by any means.

Government is the new religion. All praise the omnipotent President Biden. My Bible is the Federal Register. It’s better than your Bible because it adds 10,000 pages of delightful reading every day.

the goal of the christian death cult is end times and rapture as they alter the planet's environment to suit some fictional supernatural being with whom they claim to have a "personal relationship."

why on earth should i NOT oppose that?:

What are you talking about? Republicans have had higher deficits far more than Democrats have.

You've been listening to right wing sources for too long, and they haven't been telling you the truth.

Y'all pay lip service to 'smaller government' but when you are in power, you spend like drunken socialists.

To some, govt is their religion (or their god). They assign it supernatural powers, get a kick out of following its edicts, want to coerce others to follow its edicts, bestow upon it a 'divine right' where it has the ultimate authority in what is moral, look up to those who carry more of its authority, even get angry when it is criticized.

It makes total sense why the worshippers of govt want to get rid of religion ...the religious have always tended to have animosity toward competing religions.
