    Really?

If you mean because you were a virgin at 16, then yes- but then again any 16 year old gay virgin wasn't at risk either.

Its the behavior that is the risk.

That is why AIDS is so rampant among heterosexuals in Africa.

Of course heterosexuals who think they aren't at risk is another issue.

If we're going with statistical generalization, then the riskier subgroup would be heterosexuals, looking at HIV/AIDS from a global perspective.

If we want to deal with reality instead of misleading generalizations, then people who engage in risky behaviors are the riskier subgroup. It is not gay people as a whole.

a gay is no more at risk than anyone else. orientation is irrelevant to transmission.

except they clearly aren't since the majority of aids cases are among heterosesuals.

Exactly!! You've illustrated a very good example of how rampant and widely tolerated 'homophobia' only makes things worse for all.

No, being promiscuous and having unsafe sex is a risky lifestyle choice. You can easily control the risks involved with being gay.

The reason the majority of aids cases is hetero is because the majority of people are hetero. When you take in consideration percentage of aids people to hetero/'s vs percentage of aids infected to homo's you get homo's more.

I'm sure you've seen this link before:
    http://www.cdc.gov/msmhealth/stigma-and-discrimination.htm

So do the math, a homeless, depressed, drugged up individual with little guidance from their parents and society.... do you think this is a likely environment for a youth, gay or straight, to be having safe-sex while learning to develop long-term, supportive relationships?

... People take all sorts of risks, and people employ all sorts of measures to minimize that risk. Why are you singling out this one? There is a multitude of risky behaviors that ultimately cost hundreds, thousands of times more in treatment, why single out this one? And more importantly, why single it out strictly for gays? Being gay isn't the biggest risk factor: Being promiscuous and having risky sex is. I, in a monogamous relationship, am no more likely to get HIV than anybody else.

No it's the Anal sex that makes it more likely to contract aids due to the more than normal friction involved. Abstain from anal sex and greatly reduce your risk to aids.

But that's an arbitrary division in the sub-group. An intelligent insurance company would try, if possible, to isolate more specific categories of 16 year old and other demographics based on other patterns to figure out who is of greater risk... Hence, common reasons for discounts among 16 year olds with high grades, among other information that the insurance company can use to evaluate the risk of an individual. Being 16 is just one element of the equation.

The more pertinent question, gay or straight, is how promiscuous you are. How often you get tested. Whether you're married or in a domestic partnership. These and other factors can be far more important.

That said, let's step back and look at this for a second... let's say we did want to charge gays, or more promiscuous people more for their heath care... what does this accomplish, for society? You do this, and you make it more likely that the individual will not be able to afford it, that they will not get tested, that they will not seek medical advice important for their medical needs. This hurts more than just that individual - this hurts everyone that individual sleeps with, including the women that bisexuals sleep with, and the heterosexual community in turn. By failing to provide proper treatments, prevention, testing and medical advice, you may just be making things more expensive and risky for everyone.

To me, figuring out how to encourage safe sex and getting people properly tested is far more important than worrying about who we need to charge more.

Having anal sex in a monogamous relationship is no more likely to transmit HIV than anybody else. Anal sex enhances the risk, but promiscuity is the defining factor.

And, of course, heterosexuals have anal sex too. So if it's anal sex you're worried about, maybe that's what you should have said.... "AIDS is an anal sex disease". Which even that isn't quite right, but it's more accurate. More accurately, it's a "risky sexual behavior disease", and there are many forms of risks, and many ways to control those risks. Monogamy is an effective way to control the risks, gay or straight. Anal sex enhances it, gay or straight. Sex without a condom enhances it, gay or straight... conversely, sex with a condom minimizes it, gay or straight. People of all sorts face risks based on their behaviors, occupations and hobbies - the risk is not the important part, it's what we're doing to minimize the risks. But you seem intent on singling out gay people for some reason. As though that will fix anything. The problem is stigmatizing homosexuals, you want to reduce the costs of HIV treatment then let's work to reduce the stigma of homosexuality.

which is meaningless. the sexual transmission of aids is due to unprotected sex. being gay or straight has no relevance.

anal sex is also irrelevant. unprotected vaginal or oral sex also transmits the virus. being gay or straight is irrelevant.

I have to disagree with you here. Unprotected anal sex is a higher risk than other forms of unprotected sex. But all unprotected sex entails higher risk than any form of sex where protective measures have been taken.

And because many of the newly infected gay or bisexual males are just beginning to explore their sexuality, stigma and homophobia are making HIV testing and treatment far more challenging.Although the CDC and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend routine screening for HIV starting in the early teens, "too few young people are getting tested," Frieden said.

Amazing statement clearly showing how liberal/socialist thinking and victimology can actually cause death.

You can have as much anal sex as you want, and you'll have an extremely low, if not 0 chance of infection - if you're being safe. But if you're having un-safe sex, it doesn't matter how you do it, the more you have the greater your chance of infection. Unsafe sex creates the risk, anal sex enhances it. But it is unsafe sex that is the defining characteristic of the risk - if you're being safe, it doesn't matter how you do it.

"We have to correct a lot of myths and misconceptions," Frieden said. "It is astonishing the level of ignorance about basic physiology that may high school and middle school students have."

and you sir are doing exactly the opposite of what the man you are quoting wants. congratulations on choosing just the parts of that article you wanted to hear, and ignoring the ones you didn't.
    heres some other key quotes
"To address some of the issues, the CDC is funding a program that targets both at-risk youths and the homophobia and stigma in the community that drives them underground."
"And because many of the newly infected gay or bisexual males are just beginning to explore their sexuality, stigma and homophobia are making HIV testing and treatment far more challenging."

I agree with you, but the type of sex is irrelevant to my argument.
