71...They were a great band with a whole lot of tragedy. Lynyrd Skynyrd put "outlaw rock" on the map. When I was in school I recall a debate between the guys regarding whether Free Bird of Stairway to Heaven should be the theme song for one of our dances. We ended up being overruled by the girls and informed that "none of the above" was going to be the final decision.
I remember the group Lynyrd Skynyrd. I remember seeing them in Chico, California and then I saw then At Winterland in San Francisco. They did spectacular performances. I was real sad when they lost Ronnie Van Zant and Steve Gaines in that plane crash. Lynyrd Skynyrd should be one the greatest bands of all time.
We had tickets to see him in March, but it got changed to June. Now we know why. Love, love, love his music. It always spoke to me as a kid.
Tina was a force. She made an epic comeback in the 80s. I'm glad to have witnessed it. Proud Mary was a Fogerty song, though.
I saw her in the late 1970's when she opened for Buddy Hackett at Caesar's Palace. She was good but she considered that a low point in her career. Then I saw her at Live Aid in 1985 with Mick Jagger. That's when she became the Tina Turner we all think of as a superstar.
I liked the song but I never understood her appeal. To me she had this incredibly bland, nondescript voice.
So sad. She sang Outlander's opening song this season. (They change it every season.) True story; when she ended that song on SNL, I got up to pee and completely missed the tearing of the picture. I was mad at myself. LOL
