Socialist state lawmakers are itching to impose new tax increases to cover the ever-increasing cost of migrants in the New York City area, insisting that forcing New Yorkers to pay even more is the only way out of the mushrooming crisis.

Two state senators told The Post new taxes were on the table, while their grassroots cadres have buzzed on social media.

"We should increase taxes because it’s economically just policy to offset all costs for our state to function," said state senator Julia Salazar (D-Brooklyn). "I'd say that even if our city and state hadn't seen an increase in migrants seeking asylum, this moment makes it all the more important for the wealthy to pay their fair share of taxes."
Her tax-happy sentiments were echoed by Senate comrade Jabari Brisport (D-Brooklyn).

The renewed tax fever comes after Mayor Adams last week ordered that all city agencies must slash their budgets by 5%, and possibly by up to 15% in the future, to help accommodate the migrant surge. Adams has said that caring for migrants will cost $12 billion over the next three years.

"A reminder: This is a choice. We are cutting services for New Yorkers when we could #TaxTheRich. Don’t blame migrants for lack of leadership," said Brian Romero, chief of staff to socialist Queens Assembly woman Jessica González-Rojas, in response to the cuts.
New York has some of the highest taxes in the country, among the top three states, and according to some studies has the most burdensome total tax level out of all the states.

Are taxes increasing in New York State? I hope that they add free healthcare for migrants. That way if this crisis ever ends (fat chance) and taxes don't go down again (they never do), then there will be an argument for increasing affordable healthcare for regular citizens.

If they do that, won't there be less money to pay for healthcare for you?

No, there will be more money because of fewer emergency room visits.

I’m impressed with your OP’s in this section. I mean I only kinda know you, but seems we have some things in common about unjust taxes and how the rich are getting richer by raping the little guy.

By "the wealthy paying their fair share of taxes" she means high-income working people should be robbed of more of their wages to fund subsidies to landowners.

Cet. par., any increase in the workforce, whether through immigration, women entering the workforce, higher participation rates, births exceeding deaths, etc. reduces wages and increases land rents (Law of Rent). In addition, the value of all desirable public services and infrastructure, whether used by immigrants or native-born residents, is taken by landowners (Henry George Theorem), and does not benefit anyone else. The goal of increased taxes is to force the productive to pay for the increased subsidies to landowners.

They should do everything they can to make it a mecca for illegals.

I have a suggestion on how New York can easily .....
    not only pay for immigrants.....
but theoretically they could set in motion a series of events that could prove that the USA national debt is significantly a practical joke that is being played on
three hundred and thirty million Americans!

New York could create TWO alternative currency units.......

that could be linked to two different databases.......

one of those two databases should be S.A.P. but I don't know what the other one should be........

I would suggest a New York Dollar and......
    a New York Hour........

the New York Dollar could be patterned after www.CalgaryDollars.ca

and the New York Hour could be patterned after the Ithaca, New York Hour.......

Real Estate in New York could be turned into STAGES..... and a boom in real estate could be set in motion........

If Irving Fisher Ph. D. could put pressure on F. D. R. that resulted in him and his advisors beginning The New Deal......

then surely with Social Media and other advantages.......

even more could be accomplished in 2024........?????!!!!!

The Worgl Austria Great Depression Experiment and a real estate boom in rural America?

Governor Hochul Pulls the Plug on MTA's $16.5 Billion Budget, Throwing NYC Transit into Chaos
    2024

New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) could be on the brink of ruin. A $16.5 billion budget shortfall has left the city's public transit system in chaos, and New Yorkers in limbo.

This comes after Governor Kathy Hochul hit the brakes on the congestion pricing plan, which was expected to start on June 30th.
The congestion pricing plan would have charged drivers around $15 to enter Manhattan’s busiest areas. The goal was to reduce traffic and raise funds for the MTA, and officials were expecting a massive windfall from the new tolls.
But Governor Hochul pulled the plug at the last minute, worried that it could hurt the local economy.
The fallout from this decision has been called "catastrophic" by some MTA officials and "dire" by others. With the plan on hold, the MTA is scrambling to cover the funding gap. They've got to slash their capital budget by at least 30%, which means some big cuts on projects. $5 billion earmarked for a new subway line is now off the table. $7.5 billion intended for train upgrades, track improvements, and maintenance is getting slashed. A $500 million plan to buy eco-friendly buses is on hold. This blow has left many questioning the city’s commitment to combating pollution and improving public health.

All public spending on desirable transit services and infrastructure is a subsidy to landowners. No one else benefits from them because they all have to pay landowners full market value just for permission to access them. Like every other jurisdiction, NYC and the MTA just have to contrive some way to maintain the exorbitant, increasing, and unsustainable subsidy to landowners.

Try telling that to almost any progressive on the Left.
It will fall completely on deaf ears.

I do suspect property owners are paying for these transit services. 42% of the city's revenue comes from property taxes. Though the city does collect slightly more in sales tax than property tax. (But the burden of sales tax sort of falls indirectly on the landowners, doesn't it?)
Though there may be big federal grants as well.

Make sure and pay your sales tax with your income that has already been taxed, by the time you buy gas you're probably paying at least three different taxes.

Tax the air, tax his sleep, tax his every waking hour.

Tax the ground beneath his feet..... And especially remember to super tax the rich and even churches now like many progressives want.

Someone has to pay for all of these entitlement programs, and the government sure as hell doesn't produce anything to pay the necessary fees. That would be you and me.

True..... I guess my own name is just about the only name that I could use for these things that would be fully legal for me to do........

The fact that they would have zero face value plus be taxable here in Canada are the primary reasons why I haven't been able to do anything specific with this concept yet???????

I know they are typically as ignorant as the right. I have spent a lot of time in partisan political trenches on both left and right, and my impression is that while the leaders are all pretty smart on both sides, the rank and file on the left has the lowest IQs.
Some portion of most taxes is shifted onto landowners. In some cases it is virtually 100%.
Yes. How the burden is shifted depends on the relevant elasticities of supply and demand. It's really quite counter-intuitive, and very few people understand it.

It's very true. But paradoxically, the top 5 or 10% of the left is more clever than the same corresponding percentage on the right.
(without referring to the top 1%)

In other words, the IQ distribution has less variable distribution spread on the right than it does on the left.

I'd say the top 5%-10% on the right are just as smart, but not as educated. They went to work when the leftists went to grad school.
