it's about the eon-old desire to be able to smite from a distance (ie safety) much like the monkey throwing things at you.

the norse legends of thor's hammer and Zeus's thunderbolt are based upon this desire, of course. and the impetus for the atylatl, and the bow and the sling, and the javelin.

For me, it's exactly like golf. The challenge to place a projectile into a small target from a long distance. I never get tired of it. The challenge to accurately place many projectiles into a small target in a short amount of time at short distance. Self betterment, skill, all that. Has absolutely NOTHING to do with killing things for me.

and again, somebody who doesn't understand WHY they consider such a thing to be "betterment", why they don't just play tiddlywinks instead of shooting. :) That's precision placement, too. why bother with the expense, the noise the trips to the range, if "improvement and precision' really IS all it's about, hmm?

In America guns equal freedom. I like owning them because they are some of the last real quality things made these days.

owning is not the same thing as shooting, especially swiftly repeatedly and with power. THAT is about the wielding of power.

I don't think the OP understands the kind of thinking that Hotdogr presents here. Sure, there's the projection of "power", but it's a unique thing that only comes from shooting.
I like to shoot my .22 rifles. Not a lot of power there, but it's just plain fun/amusing to land a bullet on small things at distance.
With my defensive guns, I make no bones about what they're for. By all means, I "aim" to be proficient with them. If anyone has issues that way, it's because they have a little moral dilemma going on. They have trouble admitting to themselves that we are designed to be predators, and to engage in warfare. I don't cherish the idea of conflict, but if it comes to that, I have no problem with believing that it's better for you to lose than me.

I've always wondered about the people who love nascar. Just a bunch of left turns.

Guns are a tool, nothing more...I personally use them to provide for my family. Yes I hunt, deer, hogs are the main source of food but I have been known to shoot a few squirrel...I won't hunt rabbits down here in the south...too many parasites. I also have defensive guns...These are used to protect myself and my family, I have never had to use them and I hope I never have to.

And that's fine, nobody is forcing you or anyone to purchase, own or shoot firearms. On the other hand, we don't like Democrats trying to take them from us...

It is not about liking guns, it is about the advantages a gun provides, with a gun, you have a defense from wild or rabid animals, even in a city, one can encounter sick or injured dangerous predators, or insane people, a gun gives us a chance against stronger elements, ever see the movie "Fear" ???
That movie is a pretty accurate portrayal of a defenseless families teenaged daughter being stalked by a zex crazed young man, and how he tries to smash his way into the well fortified family home.
    They had no guns.

When I was younger it was all about making holes exactly where I want them at a distance. Having experienced combat in the military I realize that skill can keep you and the man next to you alive. Now out of the military, my 2A rights are more important to me than ever before. I wish more citizens had a better understanding and appreciation for their 2A rights.

I like to shoot my guns because they remind me of my penis and I like to whip my long pointy gun out and squeeze and spray stuff all over a target...........I am assuming that is what the OP wanted to hear.
